Setup could use a wee bit of help from somebody smarter than me, but in general the sound/feel is great! Now I finally have a P for rounds and another for flats. Guess it’s time for a second jazz as well

My bass family from oldest (to me) to newest.

Ibáñez MC-888 Bean Bass 1983. I've had it since the mid 1990s.
This bass has saved me a lot of money. I have never played a bass with better action. Has a rather specific sound though. Growly and ready to fight with people in higher frequencies.

Also here is its beautiful case. Was in a car wreck that busted the tail end up. Bass beat up passenger in the wreck. Bass was unharmed. Bass wasn't even out of tune.

Reverend Thundergun. 2017. My alternative main for a while to the Ibáñez. It is capable of a more regular sound, albeit a bit on the hot side of pickups. Also excellent low action. 1.5 to 1mm from E to G. Of all my fretted instruments, I'd note I never had to take a file to a fret on this one. Excellence off the rack.

Newest. Still working on the frets. 2 mm on the E, 1.5 on the A and I still get a little buzz playing mf. Acceptable but not ideal. I probably will actually keep the action as such. It works well for the tone of this bass not to be as low as some others, I think with the single pickup placement. But I'll get the couple frets that are imperfect and we'll be happy.

Opps. realize I don't have a picture of my electric upright BSX. Second oldest to me. The stand is a bit buried in the closet.
It doesn't look like much though. It has black coated flatwounds on it right now so it looks just like a black slab of blackness. This is a very good drawing.

I’ll hop in. No family photos, but here’s been my main thing since I got her back in April or so. Sterling by MM ray35, ash body, roasted maple neck. Really loving it, has taken over my MIM Sunburst P bass with flats. Those are the two I’m really bringing out at all these days. Also have a G&L SB-2 fretless (those pups are white hot!). I also have my father’s 62 Gibson EB-O that I learned to play on as a kid.

I picked up a Ray35 a while back and it sounds fantastic. I've been really impressed with the alnico pickup. Mine is mahogany with Koa top and matching Koa headstock

Hello all, again....
I have a problem.... G.A.S. is killing me....in a good way, but still ...

This continued pandemic (sort of) has gotten me looking at sites again....and has gotten me into trouble, again! And fortunately (and unfortunately), made some qustionable purchases...and by questionable, I mean purchases that I don't really need, but now It's become my personal epidemic...1 guitar and 1 bass...cuz, well, I can never learn from my own mistakes.....

Here's the purchases made for 2021...Didn't take pictures cuz, I'm ashamed of myself, and they're all by the workbench as I do some custom (some purely cosmetic) work on them...nothing major, but enough for me to point out that they're mine at gigs....

Epiphone Les Paul Custom, Alpine White with gold hardware.
aka: Skyler

Changes: Changing out the tuners to Hipshot closed locking tuners with Tulip buttons, adding a black and gold marbled wrap to the pickguard, switching the knobs to gold Gretsch Arrow Only knobs (no jewel), Gold Dunlop Straplocks, possibly adding a roller bridge.

Sterling Stingray Ray34, Ash Black
aka: Grace

Changes: black Dunlop Straploks, probably a smoke mirror pickguard, but I love grain, so I might just leave the clear pickguard. Not much to be done with her.

Probably 1-2 more guitars in the coming year(s) to replace the ones i have into retirement (sell/trade)...they're not worth much, but I'm getting into the habit of rotating all of them for performance needs.



I have also retired 3 basses in the "Armory":
Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro Bass, Walnut Flat (aka Madison)
- Stays at home now. Showing it's age and my gashes from playing her so much during rehearsals and smaller venue gigs from the last 3 years since I started playing bass. Probably use for my small home recording studio that I'm still planning for myself.

Squire Vintage Modified SS Jaguar Bass, Black (aka Lyssa)
- She was sold to a buddy, as he's getting into music again, and his daughter was getting interested, and I felt more comfortable with letting Lyssa go rather than Madison (sentimental reasons). Plus, this is in better condition than Madison (still want to replace her, but I've got enough basses for my tonal needs). She's gone to a good home.

Sterling SUB4 bass, Black (aka Brooklynn)
- She was bought used, and my first Stingray style bass. It was an older model before they added the control plate (She's without). The electronics have been going bad on her, and tried to see if I could replace the knobs to CTS and a better pickup, but it just made more sense to just replace her with Grace. Haven't invested too much in her, so it just wasn't too sentimental in letting her go.


Sorry for the long update....Got promoted at my job and have been inundated with more responsibilities that I haven't been able to look into the forums much...but then again, I haven't had to need to update much of anything but the new girls in the armory and the retired ones.
