But I have a question, I want to fix the whammy bar so it stays in place close by the strings when I need it, but let's me move it to the side when I'm not using it. The bar doesn't bottom out, so when you tighten it fully it stops when the threads end.

I could use Teflon tape, but I'm wondering if there is a thick, viscous grease I could dip the threads in that would accomplish the same thing. The bar has to come off when you pack it up, so I want something that lasts that let's me remove the bar and put it back on. Any ideas?View attachment 4446634

Can you drop a spring in the hole like a Strat? I've lost those and used a Bic pen spring. It does the job, maybe try that?

It's a very addictive hobby so be prepared for your home to be overrun with components purchased in bulk...

Made a lot of mistakes on modification but learned a lot in the process. Going to make a new body so that saddles can be far enough back as currently I do not have enough travel on the B string or the E string to properly intonate them. Plays surprisingly well for a cheap bass and sounds just gnarly. Sits well in the mix.

It's what drew me to it. It's a Czech Jolana Kolorbas from 1970. Chelyabinsk artist Elena Konovalova did the artwork on it. It took 2 months to get here from the Czech city of Cheliabinsk, Russian Federation. Fingers were crossed the whole two months that it would arrive and in once piece. It did. I've been working on the neck to make it playable - so far so good.

The headless bass is a Mosses Key bass. I bought it in 2003. It was at the NAMM show. The entire bass is graphite The pickups are proto types made by Lace just for this bass. This is the bass I travel with. It is a 35' scale yet fits it almost any overhead compartment.
It plays and sounds great.
