What components (and years) go into the mongrel J ? Body, neck, electrics and such.
Would you ever consider painting the mongrel J ? What about giving it a new colour pickguard? (same shape, different material)

Blade B2 (Japan) and Fender american standard jazz

Do you like your Blade? I have one too and I thought it had too much treble, so I replaced the pickups (with Nordstrands) and preamp (with an Aguilar OBP-1) and I still think it's a bit too treble-ish... Maybe it's the ash body.

I kinda like this collection, not the most expensive, but essential and consistent. Now all you still need is a P!

Thanks. Yeah, it is a very inexpensive collection. I bought each item on sale (ie each $250 or less new) except the Ray5. I agree, the collection needs a precision bass.

There are technically 2 other instruments in "our" collection, but they are both my wife's. One is a amber Spector NS2000Q that she has played about a dozen times total. Her other toy is a Sterling by Musicman JP100. She is very much a beginner, but she has the most expensive axes.

Our 7 guitar rack has 1 spot left. I think a P-bass would go perfect there.

Nice collection. I can't make out the manufacture on the head stock of the P-bass or the blue jazz bass. What are those?

I started it in '07. I bought a loaded 1989 Signature NOS alder (lawsuite) string-thru J body w/'70's J pu spacing. It was translucent wine coloured, supposedly painted by an ex-Fender finisher. I got a raw Allparts Tele neck and defretted/nitro finished it. I scored some 1966 Mustang lollypops but they are short-stemmed and wouldn't clear the headstock so I cut about 1/8" off the top. I installed an Audere preamp, Lindy Fralin split-coils, and a Hipshot string-thru brass bridge. I liked it ok, but it just wasn't 100% yet for me.

So I later stripped it to the clear wash-coat, chambered under my custom early 50's P/Jaguar hybrid pg, installed an (really nice) Allparts ebony board neck, installed modded lollypop tuners, cut a brass nut and strung it w/GHS flats. It is a heavy body and the chambering helped a little in that dept. Whether it improved sonically is debatable as it sounded really great both before and after.

As for answering your other questions, it's pretty much done and so no further futsing but I've said that before. It plays, sounds/records great so at this point it's in the "if it ain't broke..." category.

The P bass and the blue Jazz are basses I built from parts. The logo is a custom one I designed in Photoshop and printed out on Testor's waterslide decal paper. Here it is closer up on another bass a built a while back.

Carvin B2000 stack with my '82 AutumnGlo 4001 Rickenbacker and my 07/08 MIM Jazz. I know it's "show your basses", and not "show your rig", but I'm kind of limited in my photographic skills, not to mention editing the pix down to be able to attach em. Took me a long time to do this much. Sorry.

Hello, this is a very interesting thread with so many gorgeous instruments on it, my eyes are bugging out here!

Anyway, as an endorsing artist for Deviser guitars Japan I'd like to show you some of the basses they've sent me to enjoy!

So here goes,
First up the Bacchus Woodline DX5

I love this bass because it is so light weighing only 3.7KG and the fretboard and neck is so smooth to play on, like a Sadowsky or something. For a passive bass it also sounds great and packs plenty of punch thanks to the booster switch.

My late 1978 Stingray. Bought it around 1983 in its original natural finish. What can I say, it was the 80s and flashy colors were in. Removed the pick guard for the paint job and had the holes filled, never put it back on. Many basses came and went over the years, this one always remained my number one.
