Tell me about it... I'm jonesin' so hard for my baby it's painful. I just have to remember how fortunate I am to have some of the other pieces I have... they've saved my bacon while that one's been away. I know I sound like a broken record, but that Pro Deluxe is so totally connected with everything I want from a bass it's frightening.

Thanks for the data, btw, Tom told me similarly. That's what I was wanting, but noting the nastiness of the cut, I didn't want to get my hopes up too high. New rule... never underestimate Pete's ability. :D

The only thing is, Pete would not share with me what he used to patch in your fingerboard. I figured out that it's a hybrid mixture of things including shop dust off the floor and Pete's boogers.

Actually, I know the secret, but I won't tell you because I don't want to have to kill you. I've really taken quite a likin' to youse'... :D

Hey, thanks WJ and Vic...much appreciated, and great groovin! :) It all sounds good. All it did was make me jones even more. It was cool to see Pete jammin' out at Tom's house on the Exotic. Mike F had some chops on that four banger to. Tone was awesome!

Yeah, Mike F can definitely play some bass. :)

And regarding the sound of that four banger, it was after hearing and playing that bass that day, that I coined the phrase "explosive tone" and spoke to Pete... while still at Tom's house... and basically started the order for my Pro Deluxe 5. Months later, my expectations were exceeded.

I recall that day very well. After handing you the phone, and hearing your side of the conversation - which ended with the start of your order for the PSD5, though I am not sure you intended that at the start of the conversation! :smug: - I just sat there at my kitchen table grinning like the Cheshire Cat. :D

I remember that, too, and to be honest, I was as entertained by that as you were by me. :D

What's even almost funnier is that bass has a particularly intertwined history between us as well. :D

I went to the shop again today for a little visit with Mr. Skjold.
The basses in this batch (and there are a lot of them!) are coming along so quickly I can't even believe it.
The bodies are being prepared for the neck pocket routing and most have already had the pickup and preamp cavities routed and drilled.
Pete's going to start working on the necks shortly in order to keep everything rolling.
I got a good look at most everyones bass and I'm more impressed with the quality of this batch than I was the last which is really saying something! I think you all know how I feel about my two Skjolds from the last batch! These basses are just fantastic! The construction techniques that Pete perfected in the last batch are really paying off. These things are built so well that even Pete has to keep track of some of the joined areas on the basses with pencil marks because the glue lines and seams are nearly invisible! These things are going to be scary-good when they're done.

I myself have committed to another bass in this batch! Details will follow in another thread.
I'll try and get some photos the next time I'm out there, maybe next weekend!

Couple things...

I finally got my baby back today and Pete did a wonderful job of patching the fingerboard. He cleverly made use of the shape of the cut to make it just look like a natural dark area of the grain. I couldn't be happier with the results, but I'm especially happy just to have it back again. BTW, a few people played it while it was there, and I think it did some pretty serious damage to them. Chalk a few more up to one of the many killer Skjolds from the last batch. :D

On another note, while on the phone with Pete, he was telling me about the body for my current one in the works. He's predicting it will be even much lighter than my current one. That's significant, because my current one is only about 7.9 pounds! We think this one might be closer to 7! I'm not gonna' need a strap to keep it from falling... I'm gonna' need one to keep it from floating away! :D

Also, he held it up to the phone and was knocking on it. I could literally hear the wood "ring." This means the wood is very coherent and consistent. A VERY good thing! It's going to be very "alive" sounding. I think this one will be just as friggin' magic as my current one, and I may need a dang pacemaker (as well as a whole pack of Depends) to survive the first practice/gig with it! :D

Oh, and Ken... my Skjold is lighter than yours. :p ;) :D

:lol: I love to read Skjold talk. After fighting with the tone of my Fender MIA tonight and the loose action of my Sadowsky drop tuned, the GAS for my Skjold is almost too much to bare. I'm also hoping for a light bass to Vic. The jazz about killed me tonight at 9.5lbs. I think my Sadowsky is at about 8.5 and I'm hoping my Skjold comes in at 7-71/2 as well. That would be friggin' sweet!!!

Wow... that's really light. I like lightweight, but also like a little bit of 'heft' to both the feel and tone of a bass. A weight of right around 8-9 pounds (the weight of my NYC Sadowsky RV5 is about 8.5) seems to me the perfect combination of very comfortable weight along with some 'body wood' heft to the tone and feel. However, with the powerful EQ and pre on the Skjold, I bet even his super lightweights sound full and rich. Cool!

I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of mine with the pickup routes, etc. Yours must be a little farther along than mine.

Exactly...usually on these "multi figured" tops, the quilt or flame isn't very pronounced. But the quilt on this one, by itself, is amazing - very deep and 3D looking. Add in that tasteful spalt, and you have a truly unique and beautiful top!!!
