Horror story... ok, well, it could have been MUCH worse, but still...

:bawl: :bawl: :bawl: :bawl: :bawl: :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:

Drummer knocked his cymbal stand over and it fell right against my Skjold. As much as it sucks, it really could have been MUCH MUCH worse. It was a toweringly high china cymbal, falling full force. That GOODNESS it was only a glancing blow!!!!

Then again, it's in a place where you feel it pretty easily, so the bass is officially out of commission until I can get it fixed.

It was a completely innocent accident, so I can't be mad at him, and I know this can be fairly easily fixed, and again, it coulda' been way worse, but damn it still hurts.

Here, lemme bring some pain for you guys... this is what it looks like when a china cymbal tries to knife its way through your Skjold... :(

Oh damn, Vic, sorry to see that. Have you spoken with Pete yet?
I'm pretty confident that Pete could use some of his evil black magic voodoo powers to whip it back in shape.

I left him a message, and I'm about to send him some email with more angles of the painful pictures. Yeah, I'm sure he could to a great job with it... the big question is, how quickly he could whip this out, as I'm going to be very seriously hurting without this bass despite my collection.

BTW, I just found three small cuts into (but thankfully not through) the finish as well... ugh... this is more pain than I've felt in a long time. I know I shouldn't be this materialistic, but this one is so much more than just a great bass to me.

I ALWAYS put my bass in its case-even very short breaks.This same thing happened to me years ago.I dont even own a stand anymore.

Hindsight = 20/20

I've been playing in regularly giggin' bands since the early 80's except for about a 10 year break from 90-2000, and nothing like this has even come close to happening before. I'm still going to use guitar stands, but I'm not going to set my basses out until we're ready to play.

Pete says he can take care of it, but it'll never be like new again.

On the drummer, I know you're just kidding, but some have asked me that more seriously (if I basically attacked him at the time). No. If the guy was doing something stupid at the time, maybe the story would be different, but thankfully, it was a completely innocent accident, a freak occurrence, coulda' happened to anyone, even me. As such, I get neither the short term gratification nor the long term guilt of beating the crap out of him (and likely eventually quitting the band due to the resulting tension between us.) He's a great guy and was mortified about it.

Oh, man, that does leave an empty little pit in the bottom of your stomach. I am really sad to hear of this. :( Your attitude towards your drummer is commendable and appropriate. 'Stuff' happens, and it obviously was not his intent (nor even his carelessness, apparently), so taking the adult route and moving on is the way to go.

You know, you and I have had this discussion of 'what if's' in relation to bringing sweet axes to rigs (and the temptation to keep them at home under glass). Ultimately, if you have decided that this is a 'gigging axe', then some battle scars are inevitable (though certainly, you hope to minimize the severity, frequency, etc.). It doesn't really help you from feelng a little sick when things like this happen, but at least you are somewhat prepared for the inevitability of it all. But still.... :rollno: It's tough. :(

Pete will be able to make it much, much, better, though, I m sure. And of course, this is just further proof of why it's good to own more than one Skjold! ;)

im sure pete will do the best he possibly can.and no doubt im kidding-fellow musicans understand how much we value our own equipment and im sure your drummer felt terrible.when it happened to me the drummer actually knocked my bass into his drums and my bass(that was mint)had several dings and a nice big gash.he felt so bad he wanted to buy me a new one.i settled for a couple drinks.we still laugh about it to this day.

Yeah, and this doesn't change a thing for me, either. As soon as I get it back, it's getting gigged again. :)

Actually, Ken sent me a great PM about some past battle scars of his, and it really did help.
