Went for a walk today, as I was bored. I think this is probably the first time in a good 6 months that I've actually shot and not been getting paid =O

was kinda fun to just shoot random things and not care.

I hope my less then spectacular pics are ok to be included in this topic. Nothing fancy actually a 3 are cell phone pics and the other was degraded by the host but I like the pics despite the low quality so I thought I would share.

Seriously tho, yeah, of course the batter is the subject, but despite the stuff in front of and behind him in the pic, he, his facial expression, and especially his jersey just seem to jump right out of the picture. I just really thought you did especially great with the focal point, depth of field, and color saturation. :)

Thanks for the compliments up top guys!

Always a great day when you are traveling and you can watch the TSA agent push your bag back and forth through the scanner, checking out those lenses that look like other things with all the knobs on them, and all the cables, and bodies, and remotes with buttons on them, and a bag full of batteries...

I got a new Nikon 35mm f/1.8 lens. So far I have resisted posting pics of my kids but it's 95% of what I shoot these days so without further ado here is my youngest through my new Nikon 35mm f/1.8:

Love the 2rd and 3rd ones, Brad! Great composition, focus, color saturation. The first one looks soft in the eyes - I'm guessing you were shooting wide open, and at that aperture, it's difficult. 2 and 3 though, that's money.

Thanks a lot! I actually had the exact same critique as you on #1. I put the focus point too high. It irks me because I love the lighting. it was one of my very first times shooting at 1.8. I believe that 2 and 3 were also shot wide open. (I'll have to check the EXIF) but they are after having a couple hundred practice shots at 1.8 under my belt (got the lens yesterday).

Ha! Awesome. What'd you get?

I'm planning on getting myself into a cheap off-camera lighting setup this year. Not studio strobes like that but I'm eyeing a Photixx Stratos 4-in-1 set, a Yongnuo speedlite and some cheap shoot-through umbrellas and mounts from dealextreme to go with my Nikon SB-600.
