The Official TB Photography Thread

Warwick.hoy, the photos of the people in the bar on Halloween were mine, but they've been deleted.

I posted them simply as lighthearted snapshots; they were never intended as being considered art.

If you look a few pages back, the photos I posted of the Wonder Woman doll were put there with the same intent: FUN!

I may have missed the rules to this thread at the beginning, but I didn't see anywhere that every photo had to be taken so seriously.

I believe that as long as the photos do not show full nudity or depict violence they are acceptable.

Will someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

Mike ;)

:)

No there aren't any rules but I was just kinda going with the implied intent and general gist coinciding with the title of the thread, "photography". Otherwise this just becomes a "show your..." thread; or a "post your ... pictures" thread. Far be it for me to tell you what you can and can't post and don't let my high horse keep you from joining in.

;)

Fair enough. ;)

When our cruise ship docked, I took this of Charleston as the sun was rising.

the moon on the ocean while on the cruise. This was taken with the iPhone I had, so it isn't very crisp.

my cats (both are sadly gone)

got some more but I will have to post later. Gotta go meet my bf!!!

I especially like the first one, the others are nice too. Framing is nice.

My remarks would be:

the eyes don't get enough attention, I know these are spontaneous portraits, so you cant' ask them to open their eyes more.

The kid with the blue earring looks pinkish, but that's just her skin I guess.

Cool, thanks for the feedback man. Yeah, that is her skin tone....

Interesting comment about their eyes. I'm wondering what kind of expressions you'd get from kids if you asked them to open their eyes more...

I took a photography class in college, & I remember having to do a series of shots to tell a story. Here is a series of pics that tell the story of my daughter getting her ears pierced a few years back. They are just snapshots taken by my Mother in law, so that part's not to be judged! (attn Warwick.Hoy ...j/k:D) I may have 1 or 2 too many (I even omitted a few), but I think it's a cool set of pics.

It IS!

Man, there's just not a lot that can make you feel better than a little girl's smile, or worse than her crying. As a father of a daughter myself, this was a poignant lesson learned.

I'm buying a Nikon d3000 as soon as I can afford it, time to jump into photography :)

any advises, books, articles, blogs to follow, websites, etc I should start checking out? Help a noob out to learn quicker :)

Jon, your skill at portraits is coming along very nicely.

I would suggest using a darker background, though not black, to put more emphasis on the subjects.

Rather than write it again, allow me to post a link to one of the photography sites I frequent.

I posted this three years ago. I'm no portrait master, but I've learned a few things over the years. My post is number 5.

An update to my rule my #5 is: I've started using fill flash more than I used to. I've also bought a prime lens for portraits, a Pentax 70mm f2.4, and recommend buying a prime lens to everyone.

Portraits, and especially portraits of women are my favorite subject in photography.

I assume the two women in your portraits above are your wife and daughter.

You're a lucky man to have two pretty subjects readily available.

PM me if you want to talk more about portraits.

Mike ;)
Who is this Mike Bokeh guy? (Shhhhh) :)
