You will find the Corvette plus your rig will give you the potential for a gazillion different tones. My only complaint at times is: Pick One!!

I just started using the passive mode (volume pulled out) a bit more lately and actually kind of like it. Normally I use active with the pickups split in the mix, low band max and high band at the mid detent. When I want a thumpier, Motownish sound, I put both switches up. When I want a little more clarity, the center position and when I want max sustain, the down position. That choice is the same active or passive.

Feel free to change the battery every few months....it doesn't seem to last as long as some other basses.

I must admit I have never done any care on the bass other than setup and blowing off any dust. This is a rugged and versatile bass....Enjoy!:bassist:

Is anyone using Roto77's on their Corvette $$5? I'd love to get your views of how well they play. I find I like higher tension as a "dig in" player and a nice solid B. I thought the Sadowsky B was a little muddy, the Chromes better but I'm most curious about a Roto77 B string and how it comes off on the $$.

I love 775ld (77 5 string set) on a standard bubinga I used to own. Chromes currently on my corvette fna cause I couldn't find rotosound locally

I'm curious of several things.
1.) what model of active MEC pickups would get me the sound I want and I want to know If electronics from a different company would make a huge difference
2.) how thick are thumb necks
3.) I know what the current woods used to make the thumb are, but what are some specs from thumbs in the past?

Any help is greatly appreciated! I love the Warwick basses.... and I have to have this tone I'm after

Hi, traded 2 lower end basses I never played for this '98 Corvette Standard "Pro"! It's sounds great and much more sustain than anything I've ever had!

Hello fellow Warwickians-

I'm not getting many responses in a thread in Pickups so I thought I'd ask here - anyone with experience running their Thumb with passive electronics? I'm thinking of trying this with my Thumb 5. For those who have, any particular pickup suggestions? I don't think I'm a huge fan d the Barts in it right now, although I guess that could change if they were run passively.

Yes, I do know how to use the search function and have done so, but there aren't many threads discussing this, especially not current ones. Any input would be much appreciated!

I like Barts best passive.
That being said, I have Barts in my soon to be here Thumb 5 fretless, which I'm sure sound great, but I dig the EMG's in a Thumb for some reason.

Barts, to me, kinda have their "thing", which is cool, but run passive, I think they just sound "better".
I would ditch a pre-amp and go raw with just a few vol pots and a tone control.

That is probably the easiest thing for me to try first. Mind if I ask - it sounds like you've heard Barts both passively and run through a preamp. Can you describe to me how the tone changes when they are run passively?

I posted this a few pages back, but since then have added an AGC preamp. I have achieved tonal nirvana. 1991 Streamer Stage I. Refinish by Chris Bavaria. I found out that this bass has been in the hands of lots of great Talkbass members. I think it stops here. This is the bass I would save if the house was on fire.

To CarlosRoberto, this bass was in very similar condition to yours. You dont even need to throw a lot of money at it, to get it looking and playing great.
