I posted this a few pages back, but since then have added an AGC preamp. I have achieved tonal nirvana. 1991 Streamer Stage I. Refinish by Chris Bavaria. I found out that this bass has been in the hands of lots of great Talkbass members. I think it stops here. This is the bass I would save if the house was on fire.

To CarlosRoberto, this bass was in very similar condition to yours. You dont even need to throw a lot of money at it, to get it looking and playing great.

I see your point....that is one show stoppin' bass....love the P pup config. I don't normally like shiny finishes on Warwicks, but that one looks dipped in butterscotch!

I have a Corvette $$5 and a fretless Lakland 55-01....seeing the Starbass makes me realize that a perfect complementing pair would be a fretless Starbass and a fretted Lakland hollowbody.

That is probably the easiest thing for me to try first. Mind if I ask - it sounds like you've heard Barts both passively and run through a preamp. Can you describe to me how the tone changes when they are run passively?

From my experience they have a pretty low output when you have no pre-amp.
Even in bypass, I think there is still some make up gain going on. I could be wrong on that. But my old Jazz with first gen Barts after they changed from Hi-A have a real low output.
And they sound insanely good.
I tried a pre-amp and they always lost their tone from having zero pre in the path.

Recently joined the Warwick club after years of drooling.

It's a Corvette Std. with a Streamer Neck ( I have no idea why). In honour of his sort of Franken-bass-ish-ness I've decided to name him "Frankie"

How do you like the bardens? I was thinking of putting those in my thumb5. I was a bit worried if they where fragile without a cover. I usually anchor on the pickup.

Nice, I was thinking the same thing. I have a 4 banger set I never got around putting in and settled to just putting in an active mec PU set into my passive corvette standard.

@diuloma.... Are you running the barden's with the stock preamp or did you change that out too?

I'd like to hear the answer to this too. I've toyed with the idea of switching to Bardens in my Thumb NT5, but with the idea of running them passive. If nothing else, they sure do look as cool as excrement!

So far I like them a lot. I just got them a few days ago and still are adjusting the heights and finding that sweet spot. They are very punchy and thumps with a much better high end than the bartolini's they replaced. The original MECs were ok but I didn't care for the Pre amp. When I switch the Pre amp out the active MECs were just too hot and I needed a passive set.
I don't think there is a durability issue with these pups, they feel quite solid. My fear was they would feel funny because I anchor my thumb there sometimes too but, it was very easy to get used to. They don't feel weird at all.

I am running a John East Pre. http://www.east-uk.com/
I didn't care for the bass and mid frequency settings on the MEC. It's very flexible, powerfull, and dead quite. A little adjustment goes a long way. It worked well with the Bartolini pups that I took out and the Joe Bardens.

This is my awesome Warwick.

Had it for a year and a half, I love it. Best bass I have ever played and I will never sell it!

It's got D'Addario EXL170-5 on it, play it through an Ampeg SVT 4-pro with an Ampeg 8x10 Cab. It's a beast!
