That is a beautiful bass Khui. Any chance you have any sound clips of it, I would be very interested in hearing what that beauty sounds like. To answer your questioin, no one has been giving numbers out since I got on here last year so I just put Warwick club in my signature. Besides the number doesn't mean as much as having something as wonderful as a Warwick bass to play. Enjoy it, I'm supremely jealous.
WOW!! That is a real beauty!! I noticed on the NAMM Warwick coverage, Lee Sklar was talking about the StarBass which he loves....one of my favorite bassmen.
just swap out a OPB-3 for a mid 90's MEC pre- from a Thumb NT into my Taranis and also the bart pick-up back to the original MEC MM style PUs, it sound so much better than the OPB-3. way better, not so bassy as the opb-3 but way growlier and cut thru like butter.
the taranis came passive thats why the OPB-3. btw opb-3 is up for sale and is harness properly fit a 3 knob design vettes, thumbs, vol/vol-mid(push/pull)-bass/treble and i also have a david king knobs made to for them in wenge. if anyone keen inbox me.

thx for the compliments...i really enjoy modern takes on classic instruments. I'm a collector and not a real musician...i don't have the tools to create a sound clip and i probably don't know how to upload it even if i did...i found a link on youtube of another star bass...my bass pretty much sounds identical to this:

Well congratulations! This looks a whole lot like a Nirvana Black Oil Finish 5 string Corvette $$ of the German persuasion, given the phasing switches. Zackly what I have. I had been using originally Sadowsky medium gauge Black Label flats followed by my current strings, Daddario Chrome XL's.
You will find the Corvette plus your rig will give you the potential for a gazillion different tones. My only complaint at times is: Pick One!!
I just started using the passive mode (volume pulled out) a bit more lately and actually kind of like it. Normally I use active with the pickups split in the mix, low band max and high band at the mid detent. When I want a thumpier, Motownish sound, I put both switches up. When I want a little more clarity, the center position and when I want max sustain, the down position. That choice is the same active or passive.
Feel free to change the battery every few months....it doesn't seem to last as long as some other basses.
I must admit I have never done any care on the bass other than setup and blowing off any dust. This is a rugged and versatile bass....Enjoy!
Is anyone using Roto77's on their Corvette $$5? I'd love to get your views of how well they play. I find I like higher tension as a "dig in" player and a nice solid B. I thought the Sadowsky B was a little muddy, the Chromes better but I'm most curious about a Roto77 B string and how it comes off on the $$.

Does anyone know what wood those accent pieces are made out of? Not the wenge (i'm guessing that's wenge, anyways), but the red-ish stripes? Is it Padouk?

The red-ish stripes on the P-Nut are purple heart (same as the wood sandwiched between the top and back of the bass).
The second bass is a normal Stage II and has Afzelia stringers in the neck (same wood as the body of the bass).

I figured the second one to be either Maple or Yellow Heart since I'd never seen that light shade in Afzelia before. That makes sense, though.
Hey guys-I have been batting around the idea of making my thumb 5 completely passive. I have a proline that I gutted the pre out of and left the active pups. I like the tone of it but the output is pretty low. I was wondering if anybody was running a completely passive thumb 5 and what pups were used? I'd like to this without having to mess with the routes. I did a search but nothing really answered my questions.
I've been away from music for about 15 years and this past Christmas, bought my 15yo nephew a Squire P-Bass as a beginner model. I was a casual musician back then, but I was shocked at how hooked I was on even that simple bass and we were practically fighting over it for the few days we spent together over the holidays. We visited a music store to get him an amp on Boxing Day (Dec 26 is our big sale day here in Canada) and I had the pleasure of trying out several brands and models. In my younger days, I always lusted after a Warwick and was pleasantly surprised to see the more affordable Rockbass line.
Anyways, the past month has gone by and there hasn't been a day when I haven't been playing 'air bass' and I can no longer just listen to music - I have to figure out the bass lines in my head. So when I found myself with some extra $$ in my PayPal account, I decided to look around a little and see if I could find a decent bass to pick up to play around with - if nothing else just to satisfy my own cravings. I figured I'd end up with an Ibanez SD300 or something, as my smaller hands prefer a thinner neck, but I found myself splurging a little and I just picked up a 4S Rockbass Corvette, double humbucker setup in Nirvana Black.
Now I know the Rockbass is a different animal than the real deal Warwicks from Germany, but for someone coming back into things from a 15 year absence, I think $400 for this new-in-the-box bad boy was a great deal. It's about as good as you'd want for an economical bass to get back into the swing of things with, I think, was just wondering if there is anything I should be on the lookout for with the Chinese made models?
I used to be a ground-wound guy, but will experiment with strings a little. For those who play more rock, metal with a slightly sloppier sound (think Steve Harris meets Flea), what would you recommend?
I'm also in need of an amp to go with it, mostly for practice but would like to be able to jam and maybe do some small gigs with the same unit. There are some local deals on some Ibanez SW20s, Peavey MX110 and 112's, Marshall MB30, etc... what would you guys recommend as a good value for this type of style/use?
