That is looking very smart! great buy!

As for the question about someone owning both a BO and a NT thumb, there is a member here at TB who has one of each, both 6 strings IIRC. I'm not sure what his opinion on the price difference was but I know he sure likes his thumbs! Imo, having played quite a few, the NT basses are "better", but certainly not worth the price they go for new (or indeed, worth the extra £££ compared to the BO models). One of my favourite things about the NT thumbs is that the body feels slightly shorter and more compact. Very nice!

I think there may be more than one person in this situation but it sounds like you're talking about me.

I have had my Thumb 6 BO for quite a while now and just recently (last 6 months) got the neck-thru. They're both same year (2002 I believe). They are definitely similar basses, no doubt about it. The sound is similar, the look is very similar. However, they definitely are distinct.

My BO is made entirely of Ovangkol with a Wenge fretboard. The body is a bit taller than the NT (upper horn lines up with the 15th fret approximately), and the neck *slightly* more rounded than the NT, but not really thicker. The sound can be dark and woody or pretty light and sizzly but it's rarely a polite bass and is ideal when I need really gritty sounds from aggressive fingerstyle.

My NT is made with a Bubinga body and a layered ovangkol/ekanga neck. The fretboard is ebony. The body is shorter than the BO (upper horn lines up with the 17th fret approximately), and the neck will fool you into thinking it's thinner than the one on the BO, though I really think it's just flatter at the back. Its sound is similar to the BO, but I have to describe it as more polite and refined with noticeably more sustain. It still growls the Warwick growl but seems like a more mature beast. The 3-band EQ is slightly more versatile. Caveat: Different strings on each (D'addario nickels on the BO and Warwick Stainless on the NT - though these don't sound *that* different when they're broken in). I definitely like having the 26th fret.

As for the price difference, I actually paid less for the NT than I did for the BO, since I purchased the BO brand new, and the NT used from TB member Pako. It was (is) in nearly-new shape and Pako was very generous to let go of it for the amount he did. If you're after the Warwick sound, you'll be *more than happy* with the Bolt-On. If you've got the money for a neck-thru and you really want it, do it. You won't regret it. However, you're not going to regret having a bolt-on either. I never said "I wish I got the neck-thru", and my original plan was to sell the BO once the NT showed up. That obviously didn't happen because the BO is just as nice - just different.

The pics of my basses are on page 1 of this thread if you didn't catch them.

I just got my nirvana black 5 string Corvette double buck YESTERDAY. I'm stoked beyond belief. Years upon years of working the wife finally paid off. Theron (if you're out there) he helped convince the wifey. It was great. Finally she just nodded. Pics coming soon. Part of the deal is that I can't take her out of the house until Dec. 22nd. My bday. Got a gig on the 23rd. OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY.

I became a Warwick owner about two weeks ago. I'd never considered a wick since all I'd ever played seemed way too heavy for me.

A couple weeks ago was in the local GC and talking to an employee that was actually knowledgable about basses (a rarity in itself) and he pulled down a 5str Corvette in Nivana black. It had an ash body and the weight was surpisingly light for a Warwick. It has the MEC Dynamic Correction passive pups, which also was a surprise since after playing it for 30 minutes I was quite sure it must have had active pups.

Besides letting me audition it in a rig the same as I use, the salesman let me get full trade in on an Ibanez I'd (impulsively) bought a couple months before. All in all a great deal. I haven't gigged with it yet since it's still not quite as punchy as my Spector RB5, but I am very impressed with the quality of the build, the packaging, even the gig bag is way impressive.

A couple of things I discovered the hard way, the tailpiece doesn't like a non tapered B string, but the Warwick website explains how to get around it, and a set of DR Hi Beams made a nice improvement over the stock Warwick strings. Also the passive pups don't have quite the cutting power over the band that my Spector has, I suppose an upgrade to active might make a difference, but I'm digging the whole passive thing right now.

That's a very cool story, and congrats on picking up a Wick!:hyper: I just take a hammer and flatten out the end so it fits. It's all worth it though, cause I only use DR strings on all my Wicks. Congrats again on your purchase, and I'm sure you can get some punch out of her with that ash body, just takes time to figure her out.;) I'd sure like to see some pics of her..........:hiding:

I'd sure like to see some pics of her..........

Thanks, I'll have to crack out the digital camera and shoot some, it doesn't look quite as exotic as the natural finish ones shown in this thread, the Nirvana black is pretty plain jane IMHO, but still a nice look with the black hardware. I toyed with the idea of putting some black stings on her to make it a total stealth job, but I trust Hi Beams and hated to experiment just for looks.

Gonna go and check the Corvette $$ I mentioned a couple of pages ago next week... it's either that or a Sandberg Basic 4/5, depending on the Sandberg neck/construction/etc.

Don't you just hate when you have a lot of other things to do, and can't just take a daytrip to different Instrument Shops? I know I do. :rollno:

P.S Psst, you double buck owners... is it Neck-heavy? ;)
