In general, as a reformed gear addict, I must admit that most of the stuff that's passed through my hands means nothing. Most of my gear addiction was as a dedicated guitarist, and I've had a bunch of vintage and boutique stuff come and go over the years.

Nothing in the bass realm is regretted, but as a guitarist I had a '74 Telecaster that had some serious and honest relic wear. It was a keeper, but I sold it to fund a relocation across country. I suppose I miss that most of all.

In the end, it's all just stuff and you can't take your stuff with you when you die.

True - - - But while I'm still alive I still get moments of remembering how good some of that stuff felt in my hands

I don't miss it because I didn't care for the sounds I got out of it, but my mid-90s Ernie Ball Sabre (black with an all-birdseye neck... LOADED with birdseyes) simply had a gorgeous neck. It had decent feel to it too.

For years, I got sick whenever I'd see a Sabre (purely from the collectibility viewpoint)... but now that EBMM has brought 'em back, I couldn't care less.

Back in the late 70s traded a nice Gibson flat top to a guy for his Fireglo Rickenbacker 4005. Me being a guitar player the bass collected dust in the closet . Fast forward a couple of years. Our bands bass player had his bass stolen in DC one night. Sold him the 4005 (for pretty cheap if I remember ) Should have never done that. Oh well....

Traded a pre-gibson Tobais basic for a fretted and fretless modulus pair 20 years ago. It was a great trade for me and they remained gigging basses, but miss that Koa beauty. But I learned, when I saw a Shen upright set up by Nick Lloyd Locally, I sold everything I had to get funds to not let that get away. It has become my main gigging bass, while my beauty carved Roblias upright can stay safe and humidified at home. Here a pic, I am the guy upfront with the seller a great TBers and a killer player. Hard to tell the difference between GAS and a smart decision. I made many more of the former, but this time I got it right.

My '94 Stingray...bought it brand new from Sam Ash (when they had a store in Queens). Sold it in winter 2011/2012 because I moved from NYC to D.C. and was in need of money. Sold it to a guy from Hagerstown, MD (I think). We did the deal in the parking lot of a Barnes & Noble in Frederick, MD.
I am SO seriously regretting the sale...I thought I never would...but I seriously miss that bass...

This is exactly what I had to keep telling myself when financial circumstances demanded I liquidate some gear. The first was a Candy Apple Red, non-export, Fender Aerodyne.

That stung a bit, but the one that still sets my teeth on edge for purging was a Fender-Japan Limited Edition "All-Black" JB62…especially given the hoops I jumped through to acquire it. :banghead: :bawl:

I had a Steinberger, but right now, I would love to have had that AVRI '62 Jazz Bass, SD...

Update: I recently saw an AVRI '62 Jazz on Reverb, and wonder if trading my '06 Highway One will result in possibly a sob, sigh, or sniffle... I just recently performed a much needed setup on it, and you really don't see too many floating out there, these days... (looking for Kleenex, just in case).
