The Orville

The Trek fans are tearing it apart, as they do everything.

Not entirely true, sir. I myself am a big ST fan (have been for 43 years), but I really like this show. Why? I think that after 6 TV series and 10 movies, it's about time that someone came along and "spoofed" it. I watched a few episodes of Discovery, and I gotta say--I think they're starting to take themselves way too seriously. The Orville is one of those rare shows that is a send up and a tip of the hat rolled into one. I for one am glad to see a 2nd season in the works.

[EDIT: KBD's quote fixed for clarity. See post 225, below.]

I didn't say ALL trek fans were tearing it apart,
but many of them tear everything apart anyway.

That quote doesn't look right, because immediately under "other ST franchises" I wrote that Orville is NOT a ST franchise.

This is the full quote:

"distinguish it from other ST franchises"

but it's not a Star Trek franchise

S.T. isn't going to have sophomoric jokes like the one between the doctor & Norm MacDonald's character.
It's not S.T. & I'm fine with that. The Trek fans are tearing it apart, as they do everything.

Whatever you've done above is an amalgamation of two of my posts :wideyed:

That's a great example of my poor editing technique....;)

It's odd, because when I say ST fans, people I assume I mean all of them, but when I say the "majority of people using electricity" people think I mean only those in Scandinavia or in their hometown.

Ain't but one good thing ever come from Scandinavia...
and that's because the Vikings didn't kidnap the ugly chix...

FWIW, RE: The aliens always seeming to speak English.
"Supposedly", as first referenced in TNG as a current, future and retro (TOS) explanation of why so many alien species seem to speak English, the Universal Translator is "supposedly" built in to all com badges and many other pieces of their equipment.

The Orville's doctor referenced something similar when she was a hostage in last week's episode.

Assuming most of the aliens had similar tech, it does help the believability factor of the one really big hurdle (all aliens speak English???) all these series have in common. Everything else could be future science fact.
