The Orville

I could talk about a well-developed fictional world all day long. They're fascinating. All day long I hear conversations about relationships and she said what and oh my god no he didn't. It bores me to tears.

I'm going to point you in a Space-faring world that I truly wish EVERYONE knew about!

Terry Pratchett's DISCWORLD series...over 40 books.
It is the biggest convoluted, but well-written series of character arcs ever done.
Make Terry Brooks look like a novice.
Makes Robert Asprin look like a duffer.
Makes JJ Abrams look like Jar Jar Binks...oh wait, he didn't need any help with that ;)

Literally should be read from the first book outwards...in sequence.
Even if you THINK you won't like the subject matter or characters,
it'll end up taking you on a ride that you'll never forget, and reference back to
like a Monty Python fan/cosplayer.
Even Monty Python has NOTHING on TP...he wasn't just Next Level, he was a whole
galaxy and star system ahead of everyone else...it just takes you 3-5 books to realize it ;)

Sadly, only two movies have ever been attempted, both were...less than successfull.
Total Brit makes...which were basically OK films, but just not on a Hollyweird level.
Gotta give those Hollywood nuts one thing, they're really good when they're not
gorked to the gills with drugs ;)

Apparently season 1 is going to be cut short, but they'll just move the 13th episode to season 2:

Invalid Link Removed

"the 13th episode will now air as part of the second season, likely to drop around September 2018"

WHAT!!
not until September!?!?!
:crying:

Ah well, at least S.T.: Discovery starts the second half of season 1 in January.

The two possibilities that come to mind for me are:

1) Episode 13 is so good that FOX doesn’t want to throw it away while everyone’s busy with the holidays.

2) Episode 13 is so bad they’re doing a reshoot or something.

I can't praise Pratchett's Discworld series of novels highly enough. It's almost impossible for any author to write a good novel and then follow it up with many more quality books. Usually after the 3rd story, the writing becomes formulaic and predictable. Piers Anthony had a best selling trilogy with his Xanth novels and he's still cranking out sequels. There are 41 novels in the series, so far, and only the first 3 are any good. There are a total of 41 Discworld novels (there will be no more since Terry passed away) and they got better and better all the way through to the end.

I've read hundreds of SF&F novels and collections of stories and Discworld is by far, my favorite. My father has a personal F&SF library with over 1,000 volumes. He's been reading the genre since he was a kid. He's now in his 70's and Terry Pratchett is his favorite author.

Anyway, there are actually 3 movies made from the Discworld series.
