The Orville

I find myself not hating it. The one with the voting planet was interesting. The last one with Isaac and the doctor and the kids wasn't bad. I hope the eventual Patrick Stewart appearance doesn't disappoint.

I pretty much concur with you. I like the show enough to keep watching. It’s very Trek-ish in an agreeable way.

Agreed. I just started binging it. Pleasantly humorous, a few bonafide LOL's per episode. Not stupid. A first for a Seth MacFarlane show as far as I'm concerned. Decent mix of comedy and sci-fi plot-based drama is a bonus.

The show has really grown on me. I was lukewarm on the first few episodes but the past 3 weeks I found myself looking forward to watching and I've been well entertained by each one. The stories are more cerebral than I expected. I thought this was going to be wacky plots with lowbrow jokes thrown in but I like that there has been some genuine effort put into making this serious and believable story telling.

My wife watched that episode with me, and she thought that the whole idea was preposterous. When I told her that it was already happening in the world, she made a remark about tinfoil hats.....

She didn't have much to say about it after reading this article: Invalid Link Removed

I wonder who's holding the MacFarlane "comedy" back and pushing the sci fi forward....him or the network.
. The network promoted this as a laugh fest, so I don't think the execs are the ones holding it back. Perhaps that's how McFarlane sold it to them. But especially based on the last two episodes, it seems pretty apparent that whoever is doing the writing has more in mind. And yeah, add in the the Trek alumni getting involved. I think he wants to out trek the people doing Star Trek.

We've all gotten pretty spoiled by the latest movies. The original series was pretty low tech, but liked to mix a little humor with some serious social commentary.

I liked the episode when Isaac amputated Gordon's leg as a practical joke ... that just cracked me up. I find myself really liking this show; funny with some great special effects.

I sincerely hope it stays about Sci Fi, and nothing else.
Bugger, I missed that one. I was looking forward to the robot's take on humour. He's quite the device for poking at human foibles.

That was my reaction, as well. That would never happen in any of the official Star Trek franchises.
It's worse than just unexpected. Not that there's been any real character development with her but it wasn't in her character at all. Someone else should've come up behind him with a vase or she could've convinced him there's another way or a dozen other options. What was the point of that character at all? That guy is a legit character actor with a million sci fi credits and at least one star trek roll that I can remember right now at 4:48AM. They made him seem almost kind or sympathetic. Why? So she would have uncontaminated blood to heal her son. The whole thing was just sloppy.
