I understand all that. TOS was competing with "Lost in Space" and that makes it a Shakespearian masterpiece by comparison. But I've been sold on the idea that the show had some moral or ideological value to it and I just don't see it.
I feel the same about Godzilla. Way overrated. I get the point that it was more meanigful in the context of the cold war mentality of the time, but I think simple nostalgia has more to do with why people like it today. Frankly, the only value I've ever gotten from Godzilla was the MST3K treatment of the movies.
