The Paracast - UFO's & Paranormal

Okay, I did a little googling and I see you point. I had to give you some credibility because of your knowledge of the field. I see now the problem. You are speaking as if in a scientific community. Not all of us are and may not understand the way you are using your words. I found this that helped me understand. Hopefully, it will clear up some other's confusion: Text : Is Gravity a Theory or a Law? | The Happy Scientist

But, if the Ancient Alien Theorists haven't commented yet, we can't be sure.
The Ancient Aliens knuckleheads' "theories" fit more into the other definition, since there are no facts or evidence supporting their views. While you might call their ideas hypotheses, even that is a stretch since there are no means by which to test the hypotheses. So really, I guess their ideas fall into the "fanciful imaginings" category.

I think you guys are being kind of harsh on the OP. I don't agree with him, but he started this thread to talk to other people who are into it. You guys turned it into a bashing session. Live and let live. He's not hurting anybody with his beliefs.

I'm pretty sure I said the same thing a few posts ago.
Let the OP stand.
Go away if you don't like the topic.
You're just trying to stir up the pot.
Trolling.
Jeesh, go to some Fender bashing thread.

Scaring? With ones and zeroes? I think the discussion is cogent and salient to the topic introduced by the OP.
IMO it isn't. If I posted a tread to talk to other dog owners and someone came along and crapped all over everyone who owns dogs, I'd call that trolling. Live and let live. I don't have to agree with the OP to defend him from being bullied. We're all here to have fun. And as someone who expressed controversial opinions in the past and got completely roasted for it, I'm going to stand up for the OP so he doesn't have a bad TB experience.

I wouldn't say all of your posts have been on topic. Disagreeing is not bashing.

I see a number of posts that focus on the concept of evidence. The first thing about evidence when it comes to UFOs ( alien craft ) is that there's plenty of evidence. The real issue is how much weight that evidence deserves. Verifiable material scientifically valid evidence ( VMS for convenience ) carries a lot of weight, but unfortunately, the public has no access to that kind of evidence when it comes to alien visitation. So how much weight does the remaining evidence carry? Some people are entirely dismissive of all evidence other than VMS, so for them the UFO story ends there. It makes no difference to them that many of the things we take for granted on a daily basis aren't backed by VMS evidence.

The rest of us are open to the idea that science isn't the only hammer in the toolbox. Other excellent tools e.g. critical thinking can also help build a reasonable foundation upon which to base belief. But even then UFOs still present a challenge because there's a lot of noise in ufology that obscures good non-VMS evidence. Nevertheless, IMO, when taken together, and the bulk of the noise is sifted out, the non-VMS evidence is substantial enough to make alien visitation reasonable to believe. Therefore from a well informed perspective on the topic, I think it's fair to give witnesses the benefit of the doubt while at the same time investigating claims with healthy skepticism ( save the mockery and ridicule for the Republicans :D ).

Unless of course you're Obama, in which case you also use UFOs
to mock and ridicule the Republicans ...

Not that funny actually ...

Yeah, Jeez. Exactly. I don't exactly need a box of Kleenex, but Jesus Christ, I didn't think there would be this amount of crap degrading the subject matter.
