I've got a set of TI Jazz Flats on my ET-5 right now. I love the feel, love the sound, BUT the volume is about 30-40% lower on the B string. I'm totally disappointed. :crying: I'd remove them immediately if it wasn't for the love of the other 4. I'll probably remove them in the near future. Not sure what I might replace them with.:confused: Anybody got any suggestions?:help:

The Series II is passive, so I can't vouch for flats on an active Pedulla. Can't think of any reason why they wouldn't sound awesome.

i guess i was wondering about gauges and tension and whatnot...i know pedulla recommends certain gauges and whatnot and i want to make sure i get strings that will fit in the nut (for example i know TIs have a huge B string). so yeah....this is sort of vague...i guess i'm asking for suggestions of flats for an MVP or Thunderbolt 5er.

Did you adjust the bridge saddle/pickup height when installing TI Flats? Also since the TI B is massive be sure it's properly seated in the nut slot. Once the strings are tuned to pitch I like to press them down at nut & bridge so that the speaking length of the string is on a straight plane.

I've had TI Flats on my Rapture 4 w/single HB, Rapture J-2000-5 w/ J-J pickups, and a (departed) ThunderBolt 6 w/2 soapbars. In each case the strings sounded/felt great and put out equal volume.

If setup's not the issue and it's a bum string you should see if TI will replace it--it's the least they could do at those prices!

If I was gonna try other flats on a Pedulla I'd go for D'Addario Chromes--a good blend of warmth and brightness--or maybe some Ken Smith half-rounds.

yeah, i was thinking of chromes too...i played them on another bass and liked them. which bass do you think would make more sense to put the chromes on, my MVP or my Thunderbolt?

I personally have never had to make any nut adjustments on any of the five basses on which I've installed TI flats (including the Pedulla). Bridge and trussrod, yes; nut, no.

I should say that only 1 of the 5 basses I've used Jazz Flats on was a 5-string. I was never happy with the sound of the B string, so I tuned it up a half step (CEADG) and it sounded great. Most of the time, however, I string that bass EADGC.

I like the sound of flats on a bolt-on. I would recommend starting with the Thunderbolt. I don't own an MVP yet however; maybe it would be an awesome combination :)

On-topic, I've had a long love for Pedullas, and they certainly made my "short list" of "high-end bass" to move up to. However, the combination of the all-maple construction of the Rapture is simply too bright acoustically for me, and yet the Bart pups were too "smooth & dark" and at the end of the day with their recent price increases I couldn't justify spending that amount to immediately mod the electronics and hope it's more to my liking. I certainly keep an eye out, though - I'd love to pick up a used 17.5mm-spaced J-2000 Rapture 5 in Arctic Night or Charcoal and see what I can do about the pickups. :D

Dude, she just let me drop $1,500 on my personal "Red Geddy" [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] last month after promising quite fairly this would be a "No Purchase Year" because I basically revamped the entirety of my collection, consolidating a Large Amount of "Decent Midrange Basses" down to 5 "High-End" Players.

...I'd be dead before my body hit the ground, and I'm pretty sure she's got an alternate persona and cash in a Safety Deposit Box. My girl lives life prepared! :smug:
