Or why don't you wake jaco out of the dead and slap him for the condition his Jazz bass was in.

First, let's not turn this into a giant argument. He can do whatever he wants with his bass.

First, I don't know your age, I'm not the oldest wisest guy in the world. I'm 23 years old. I am just saying that when you are 15 you go through phases and trips that get old to you real quick.

If i had been given a Rickenbacker at 15 and scrapped all the finish and put stickers all over it in my I'm so punk rock phase I had at that age, I would seriously invent a time machine just to go back in kick myself in the nuts.

In life, you have to think about your future. I'm not being close minded at all, but telling a kid that has no idea of the worth of an instrument both monetary and on the musical level to paint it with jamaican colors just because at the moment he finds it cool is just plain dumb.

If he really wants to do it then he just has to do it.

Uhmm... no. Don't do it.

Instead of a paint job why don't you try something like a body sticker? You could have a new sticker each month... Sounds cool to me. Also, I think a jamaican flag or something else would look cooler. Red/green/yellow makes a lot of people nauseous...

As usual, most everything I've thought has already been said. I would like to add my feelings on tattoos.

I've wanted tats for as long as I can remember. It's been 9 years since I was first leagally able to get them, but I still have precisely ZERO tats. Why?

Because once upon a time, I promised myself that I would only get something tattooed if I could be satisfied with its design after waiting a full year for it. And at 27, I still haven't found a design that I liked longer than 8 months.

The point of the tattoo story is to have patience. If your idea stands the test of time, it is a good idea. If you're really gung ho about painting it, wait one full year, save your money for the paint job and take it into a reputable shop to get it done right.

Or just go the vinyl decal route.

I used to be into that. Reggae band, roor collection, dreads, sandals, everything. Im soo glad I did'nt get it painted that way now. My advice: Spraypaint the pickguard, and replace it when you get older.

Let the Ric alone, in case of an emergency you could sell it and get the most money out of it. You seem to be a big fan of Flea, why don't you order a bare P Bass Body routed for a MM Pickup from Warmoth, you can get a cheap neck from ebay, and then later on you can order a Modulus neck and you have your original Flea/Rasta Bass!
