As much as I'd really like to pry his Read Purity preamp out of his hands and have it come my way, my 5L just refuses to get up on the trading block. It probably has something to do with the fact that it's a single-digit serial number with the finest 5-string neck I've ever played.
Also, at the moment, my temperamental (but dearly loved) Brunetti pre seems to be functioning well, thanks to fellow TBer "Passinwind," who stepped up and worked on the beast.For the record, I'm 39, have two Reverends (does the BH count as a "'fish?"), and am seeking a third (a four-string).

Hey guys, maybe someone can answer this for me: I've seen one or two 'fish on-line (including on the Rev. site) that had cloverleaf tuners, and scads of 'em with those y-shaped ones.
What is it that determines which tuners went on a given bass?

Edit: Only the BH5 came with the better (cloverleaf) tuners and bridge standard. It was considered the high-end model, and as such, had the improved hardware:

Here are the tuners on the back of my 5L, same as those which came standard on all Reverend basses except for the BH5 models:
I vastly prefer the tuners on the BH5. The ones on the 5L are a little cheapo, suffer from more problems (one of mine has some problems, and other people have complained of the same thing), and are the ONLY thing I don't like on Reverend basses. Fortunately, I don't use the tuners all that much on my 5L, which stays in tune very well and is quite stable.
Appearance-wise, the 5L tuners look like a budget version of Gotoh ones, and the BH5 ones look like hipshots, but I don't think either have markings on them to say for sure.
I could post pics of the respective bridges as well, but you really can't gauge the quality difference very well from pictures. The BH5 has a better bridge, but the difference isn't all that great, IMO.

You could be right on that. According to the American Basses book, only the BH5 came with the upgraded hardware, and the book could well be wrong. It's been so long since Reverend was taking any orders on basses that I have no way of knowing what custom options were available back then.
Ahh, for the days when you could just order the 'fish you wanted . . .

Nearly all of the non-BH5 Reverends I've ever seen (except for knife's new fish and maybe one other) had the standard tuners and bridge. I figured those folks had just swapped out the tuners on theirs.

Good choice. I didn't want to have to catch you sneaking around outside my house some day when you had finally come to your senses.
Still on the fence ... coming to my sense assumes that I actually had them once ... Actually I recorded some tracks with just the P pickup in the Reverend. You may recall that the PJ pickups in my remaining 'fish are from Aero ? I sent the original PJ set to ShamRock'nRoll with the white 'fish I had. I did the same tracks using the L2K. Thursday evening I'm headed back down to rehersal and I'll get to do the comparo. Our reheral studio has Genelec's - nothing can hide from those things. They make my Sennheisers seem sloppy. Which is sad as I own 3 sets of them ... Actually the Senn's are fine but the Genelec's are a lot stronger in the low end and no phones can really compare. I think you could do pipe organ on the Genelecs and probably crack your neighbor's crystal - or his foundation ...

Yeah, I like the Aeros fine in there. It's a heckuva good sounding bass.
I hear you on the Genelecs. I had major lust for one of their home theater subs at one point, but the price tag made my Sadowskys look like a bargain in comparison.
