I really thought there wouldn't be as big a difference between the P/J and the XL, but it was there...all about the series wiring, I believe.

The J/J was thinner-sounding...same great tone, just not as fat as the P/J and not nearly as fat as the XL.

I can't wait to record with the flatwounds! I'm guessing it'll be a tone machine...I usually record with my Ampeg B15-S, so fat and round will be no problem.

Of all my Revs, my 5L has the fattest sound, no question. Same wiring as the XLs, and the series is the overdrive. On the 5Ls, the bridge pickup is a little further from the bridge. It's not moved much, but just enough to fatten up the sound that much more. :D

Strung with flats, and the only bass I've ever had to get a nickname: "Thumpy."

Man josh.....If I wasn't buying a new house in a week, not to mention transmission problems right now, I'd be all over that... I'd love to have a spare with flats on it to A/B every other song....

Are you saying that you know where to get a BH5? The Bass in my avatar is a CB-SC by Bud LeCompte that I owned for awhile. Here's a link: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Gotta say, I'm not 100% I want to let this P/J go yet...i love everything about it except for the fact that it is a 4.

Well I finally got around to looking under the pickguard of my 5L which has VVT controls rather than the more common VT and switch...

...and what a mess! It looks as though a previous owner has rewired this with very little soldering skill. I'm going to have to replace all of this, so can someone please either supply me with wiring diagrams and component values for both control layouts (or point me in the direction of an on-line resource for this) I'm toying with the idea of buying a second pickguard so I can swap between VVT and VTS controls.

I'd call Reverend and ask them to email you a pdf for both setups, then, call pickguardian, and order a second guard.
Call Bayou Cables for any components Reverend can't get you.
Get bullet connectors for you pup wires, and have fun.

Did Mr Naylor release any 5L's with VVT controls or are the ones I've seen been modded? And are there any sonic benefits to going VVT?

What do the 2 knobs and switch do on the stock 5L?

I've never seen a VVT 5L.
I forget what the switching does, but, "it's not what you'd think."
It's something like neck only, both in parallel, both in series to make a biga** humbucker...but, I've probably got that wrong.

I went to the Reverend archives, and they don't have the bass manuals posted no-mo....boo!
It'd be swell if they could re-post those. please and thanks!!!!
