I just thought the elecs were all wrong on the Lakie semi. The Barts seemed not to provide the grunt I'd expect from a semi-hollow bass. A different placement may have helped? Next to one another, I thought the Casady sounded better.

And the 2-vol/2-tone control wasn't working for me either. I found it impossible to blend the pickups to taste. Add in a couple other niggles to complete the package, and my Lakie semi was nowhere near the bass it could have been IMHO.

The Scheff...if ever there was a bass that could use a third pickup? Right smack in the middle?

Still, they are sweet looking basses, can't take that away from 'em.

why one needs vol/vol and a pup selector i'll never know: yeah, that's some convoluted signal path there....though gibson has done it for decades i guess.

Hi, I'm new to the Reverend club - I'm not actually a member yet - I never cared for the older models. But I will be a member soon.... read on...

Ken from Reverend has been one of my best friends for more than 25 years: We met in high school, saw Black Flag together when we were 16, played in bands together for more than ten years, I was Best Man at his wedding, he was Best Man at mine, etc., etc.

When he took over as General Manager at Rev HQ early this year, I even helped him move the shop to their new digs in Livonia, MI. He's been talking about doing a new line of basses for a couple years now, so when my phone rang earlier this afternoon, all he had to say was two words:

"They're here."

I forget the name of J configuration bass, but there she is in Justice Blue and tobacco sunburst. Chris4001, I'm pretty sure you'll be getting good and familiar with the 5 string flametop soon:

I didn't get a shot of the hollowbody/shortscale "Dub King". But I played it along with the Thunder Gun and the J configuration. They're all awesome. I'm not much of a gear-head, so I probably can't speak to much in the way of technical specifics on these basses, but I can say how cool it is that these are finally a reality. They play smoothly, they sound great, and they look absolutely stunning. He'll be debuting them at NAMM in a couple weeks, I predict they'll go over in a HUGE way. Start saving, they'll be hitting the streets in March.

I spoke to Ken on Tuesday and he was excited about them!
I believe the names are Justice, Decision, Thunder Gun, Dub King, and something starting with an "M".
The small bladebucker will start a trend for sure.

They are nicer than I imagined, the body carries the loner top cutaway with grace, VERY VERY nice. A Homerun for sure.

Yeah, I can see those!
While they're much better looking there, I still don't see anything for me...including the Dub King.
I can't see MM type pickups being something that would draw me in on that.
Love to play one sometime, but, don't think that's my thing....

No GAS here yet (thankfully), at least not for the solids. Not into the Jet King thing. I see where they've tried to capitalize on the Rumblefish vibe, vis-a-vis the body and headstock shapes. "Glory days"?

The Dub King looks okay (I could live without the pearl blocks), I like that it has clover tuner paddles. I would like to hear one. If it was HH with single coil options, I'd definitely be interested.

I want a new semi for sure. So far, I'm leaning hard towards the Hofner Icon Club. Played one the other day, sounds great (and no cheezy pearl blocks). At $369 shipped brand new, I may have to temporarily suspend my "anti-made-in-china" policy. lol
