Have to agree with a lot of Chef's points. It sounded like Ken did'nt have a set price decided upon yet. From how he was talking, I would guess@ 800 area. They are definitely all made in Korea. I really like the looks of them, but sound wise is what really matters. Ken told me it blew his Houser away, but that was just playing by himself. Plus, he's a guitar player! How good is it going to aound in the mix? That's where the older ones really shined.

So very true matrok. But I can't stop looking at the pictures.
I see a bit of TBird + 70s Jazz + StingRay... almost as if Scotty had a transporter accident during a beam up lol. The more I look at them the more I like the way that they appear. The questions are something to look forward to in the New Year.

Saying "blew the Houser away" in itself, means nothing:
in what ways?
how was the houser deficient?
what's been done to correct those shortcomings?

I'm not saying something new might, or might not, be different and indeed better than the Houser, as I do see that bass as having shortcomings.

One could also say "it blew the PJ away," or "it blew the 5L away," and I'd take the same issue with those statements.
It's a nearly quality free statement until you tell me what's different and how/why...

That was basically a forever ago though in the age of manufacturing. I special ordered my first Musicman for $1050 just 6 years ago and a Dingwall for $2200 4 years ago. Today I'd need at least another 450 and 700 to get the same things. The Revs were a neat thing at the right time, but they were barely sustainable at that time.

If a Skyline 44-60 can go for over a thousand now, then I don't see why an import Rev at 900ish is a unreasonable thing.

I am sure they will be in that $800-$1000, and I figure they will be worth it. The problem for them, IMO will be exposure. They will be competing with MTD, Lakland, etc (you get the idea) which are all companies who've been producing basses w/o interruption since Reverend stopped what, 8 or 9 years ago? They have a bit of brand rebuilding to do as a bass company. In my local circle of bassists (probably about 5or 6, that I speak to somewhat regularly, I am the only one.who even knows of Reverend. They have a dedicated following, but still, a small one.

From a marketing standpoint, this can create a problem. Understand that right now it is tough releasing a product that has very little ties to what has become fixtures in popular cultures. Quite honestly, had Sadowsky, or Lakland not had products in line with those created by Leo Fender, they may not have had the level of succes that they have. Many of the other boutique luthiers caught a wave in the late 80's thru about 2002 that allowed unique body shapes and exotic materials to florish in the market place; with that, the exotic pricetag was also allowed to take hold. In this era, there has been a more conservative approach to instrumentation, both with design and fiscal expectations.

The MM pickups, generally, make for an instant fail point for me.
Which would seem to rule most of these out, for me, if they really are MM flavored.
Still, I'd sure like to try some of these. Hopefully, they'll be a stocking dealer in StL or KC.
