The full scale revs feel similar to that of a Stingray. Not too fat but not too skinny IMO. This one has a thick satin finish that is very smooth, and my Reverend Me'shell has a gloss finish. Both are super easy to play and the PLEK means you can get your action really low if you're into that. I really want to try a Thundergun too!

A while back I went to CME with the intention on walking out with a Sentinel. I didn't realize it had a painted neck, and I have the same prejudice as you. I ended up walking out with a Triad instead (which has a wonderful-feeling roasted maple/walnut satin finish neck), but I would say the Sentinel's neck finish is...among the better painted-neck feels I've experienced. I still don't prefer them, but they're definitely better than others I've felt.

I'd probably consider the Mercalli, since it has the same pickup configuration as the Thundergun, but has the roasted-maple-and-walnut bolt-on neck instead. Maybe not the exact same, but I'd suspect the painted finish, while better than others, is still a painted finish.

Honestly, I've been eyeballing Triads and Mercallis for a while now, but product seems to be scarce. There's a good deal on a Thundergun that I saw that made me second guess things. I don't really know why I have this hang-up. I think the only time I messed with a painted neck was just a few minutes in a store with a Bongo, and I don't remember disliking it. Brains are weird.

I am totally lovin' this new (to me) Mercalli…..and wishing a 5 string , 34" scale Thundergun was "a thing".

I usually get mine rewired to V V T, but that's just preference.

A lot of people like either DR Fatbeams or Highbeams on their Reverends. I myself like the Highbeams on mine

I have a Mercalli 4 as well. Great sounding bass and is very enjoyable to play...comfortable, balances well, and looks cool. Although I have Fat Beams on mine, I did like the SITs it shipped with. I like the blend knob in the middle position for most of our set but roll it towards the neck when playing heavy rock and slightly back towards the bridge for poppier stuff. Simple to dial in a decent tone. Don't think you'll be disappointed.
