Yeah I think it is a question of personal preference. I’ve lusted after the wattplower but I have one shortie (a stingray) which generally sits in its case. It feels like a toy to me but it’s has its place - it’s kind of comfortable to use while sitting on the couch at movie time Disclaimer: I have a tendency to change my mind so don’t hold it against me if you see me posting a wattplower here someday For now I’m digging the Fatfish, the tone, the neck and the scale is just too nice.

Here's a Mike Watt and the Missingmen show from 2021. He's playing a Root Beer Sparkle Wattplower Mk II like mine. I've only played shorties the last 10 years or so since falling on ice and suffering a major impingement injury in my left shoulder. I love that Mike Watt plays his signature bass, unlike many others who did a signature bass for the money. And Mike played the original Wattplower before the Mk II was released. It's tone monster. Fast and easy to play.

Thanks me too. Not sure why they changed from the reverse headstock but I like it!

I asked about the change to 2+2 and they said it was a request made by Brad. The idea of the reversed headstock initially was to be able to use regular strings, but he didn't like the resulting string tension so requested the change to 2+2, but it didn't make production until after he died

Damn shame he didn’t get to get to try out his 2+2 request. Sure he would have been pleased with it!

Reverends have officially spoiled me guys. Just bought a Fender Vintera II P Bass because of a sale Sweetwater was doing and I wanted a regular old P Bass (or so I thought).

Came yesterday, set it up, and started playing, reboxed it and am in the process of returning it.

For a bass that’s originally $1199, the quality is AWFUL. Really unbalanced, poor fret work, cheap feeling neck, cheap bridge, pickups sounded not great.

I picked up my decision p and played for two hours straight without even thinking about this new p bass I bought. You just can’t beat the build quality , qc, and little extras that are associated with Reverend instruments.

Agreed. Reverend are the bomb. I’m in the process of selling my last 2 Fenders, I haven’t touched them since buying my first Reverend in 2022!

I only have one Fender, a MIM repro of my first bass, a '63 Jazz. It's also my only long scale. The neck bowed like a crescent moon. It's now in its gig bag, unstrung, in my storage locker, never to see the light of day again. It's just there to remind me of how much fun I had with the original and the late '64 Bassman amp, both bought used in '67.

To reuse an internal snarky saying we had at Motorola back in the '90s:

Fender. You can buy better, but you can't pay more.

Well, OK, you can pay stupid money for a Mike Lull, but it's mostly true for mainstream guitars & basses.

When I first started playing many many years ago, I always thought Fenders were the gold standard for quality instruments. Boy, has that changed.

I may have been born with my eyes closed but they’re open now !!

I’ve gotten curious about Reverend basses but the chances of finding one local to check out are slim. I’ve developed a pretty solid love for P bass sound and pretty much stopped playing much else.

Between the Mercalli and Thundergun necks. I typically favor satin necks and the Thundergun is painted so I worry about stickiness. Are the Mercalli necks the more satin of the two?

Yes indeed. The Mercalli neck is smooth as butter. The ‘gun is painted but apparently not sticky. I haven’t got my hands on a ‘gun yet but hope to in the near future.

Never played a Gun. The Mercalli neck is my favorite, hands down!

Beautiful work by everybody, great song, and one gorgeous bass. It doesn't look like you're wearing a strap on that bass, and it kinda looks like it's about to slip off of your lap, but you made it work! Very nice, and they are very cool basses indeed.

Can confirm. I own 3 Dub Kings and live in central Texas and they never need adustment. I used to live in Seattle and had a Mercalli and a Thundergun and, likewise, the necks were rock solid.

Hey - considering one of these, but would want a black pickguard. Anyone switch to a different pickguard on these models? I wonder what they would look like with black.

On Reverends website , I think they suggest a retailer for aftermarket pickguards. Let me see if I can find it.
