I have a replacement pick guard from pickguardian on my Merc 5 and it's perfect
Those new backpainted pickguards are really nice looking. Check it out in person before you order a black one.

Loved your composition and performance. Lovely tone from your Dub King! If it was a shorty, I'd buy one in a microsecond. I think it's awesome that you're able to share your music passion with your wife. I envy you (I have 3 ex's). I sub'd your YT channel even though this is the only video posted. I hope you post many more. Austin is a great music town. I enjoyed my business trips there several decades ago when I worked for Motorola. I grew up in the early '50s not too far away in Copperas Cove in a house at the end of a dirt road, miles from the next house. There's a strip mall on that patch of dirt now. How things have changed!

I could only find one in stock in Europe. It's in the U.K., so I'd have to deal with Brexit, currency exchange rates and possibly import duty. Plus, it's the Natural color, which I don't find attractive. I can order an Avocado Burst from Thomann, but they're stating 5-7 weeks. They just shipped the fretless Sire U5 that I ordered over 2 months ago (prepaid), so it's possible that ordering one now will push into January when my Marco Marcústico should be finished. I currently have one semi-hollow body shorty, a Lakland Skyline HB30, that I really like, so I think I'll wait until next year to order one. Lads, I was watching a live show on Youtube of the Descendents (Karl Alvarez is one of my biggest influences for playing) and noticed he's playing a Reverend. I thought he always played Fender P's, very cool to see him rocking what looks like a Mercalli.
I actually wanted a replacement pickguard for my own Mercalli 4 and decided to learn how to make my own. I posted a bit about my process over on another thread recently. Pics below. This cost me $20 in materials (plus any tools you need, I did all mine with a $30 rotary tool from Amazon) and also a lot of patience to get it right.
Pickguardian who is mentioned above does a very professional job but you will probably have to mail him your own pickguard, he's not cheap, and he may take a few weeks depending on how backed up he is. If money and time aren't an issue then I'd definltely consider going with him. The reason I decided to make my own this time was part curiosity and part wanting a quicker turnaround.
Found this Thundergun second hand. Bit of a drive to get there but the price was good. Won't get a chance to play it until after I get home later but I'm expecting good things. It's surprisingly light and the finish is much nicer in person than I thought it would be.
Nice score! I'm sure you wont be disappointed. Gunmetal is a nice finish. Thundergun will be my next Reverend but I'm waiting for a new finish to come out. The current Violin Brown is just okay but the green/yellow burst one is not for me. Congratulations!
Got to spend some time putting the Thundergun through its paces today. Previous owner had flats on it so that's what I played with. Rounds will go on it eventually but I found I was really liking the flats.
Neck pickup definitely has the P vibe I was hoping for. It can growl but still has good clarity. Seems like a P with a little something different and so far I like it.
Bridge definitely has a jazz thing going but it seems thicker with a bit more bottom end which was a pleasant surprise. I even soloed the bridge pickup for a while and it can hold its own.
Overall it seems to have good amount of output and boom while still being clear. For general use I ended up rolling the blend knob towards the neck position maybe 60/40 or 70/30. Blending and slightly favoring either pickup seems to be my preferred spots.
With the scale I have here it came in at a nice 8lbs. My MIM P is around 9.2lbs for comparison. So far the painted neck hasn't caused me any issues but time will tell.
I'm pretty smitten so far. Got some Fat Beams on the way since I know I like them on my other basses.

For you Wattplower owners, how well does it hang on a strap, given that the strap button is on the back of the bass rather than on the horn? Does it tend to fall away from you?

A bit, but for me it's not bothersome, due to where I rest my forearm on the top of the body. It also has a little neck dive, but not something I have to fight.
Thanks for the feedback. I tried one recently at one of my local shops and was impressed by how light it was, and the sound of course. But I played it sitting down on a stool, so i was wondering about its strap-worthiness. Thanks @Deleted member 268085 .

Any comments on difference between older models and new?
Wright is a big deal for me, the decision was a big win for that.

I'm not aware of any differences in the older models other than the pickguard vs no pickguard on the newer models. Mine is a 2023 model. Merc 5 is awesome and has tone for days. You won't be disappointed!
The Pickguard vs no is the biggest visual difference old to new other than the colors that have come and gone and the block inlays vs dots, but for comfort, the newer ones have a forearm cut where my old one doesn't. If I was buying today I'd try to get one with the cut, as the bound body edge is a little sharp and I've even considered getting a banjo style armrest for it like the one on my BH5.
