ChadonBass, what are your impressions of the mercalli?

I'm digging the neck. It's real comfortable and it sounds as good as the bass it replaced. I need to do some tweaking to bring out its own sound and suspect that it's going to be even better when I get the right amp settings done.

Yep. Rumblefish are the American made basses Reverend did until 2006 or so. In my mind, they're the best bargain to be had. I can't replicate the tone I get from that with any bass.

I think you will love those 2, I have both of those basses as well. The 5l sounds very different than my BH and has a much different neck!

Yes, I've had one in the past. Great player! And a lot Brighter than the BH5. I have RotoSound Flats on the BH5, and it really sounds great! I'm guessing something a little Brighter for the Red Snapper!!

Yes the R5L is 35" scale. It's been a while since I had one so I don't remember how the pick-ups sounded. I do remember that I did not fancy the stock pups. I would not be surprised to find that I like them just fine now but replaced them with EMG's immediately back in 1999 or 2000.

Should you find that you love your R5L so much you no longer want your BH5, I'll gladly buy it. I've got three and would be happy to have them all. At least post pictures!

Just got my red one down off the wall for a bit. I've always been ok with the stock pickups. The one thing about their tone is, I forget until I play it again, just how deep it sounds - plenty of high end, sure, but exceptionally strong fundamental. Almost like a Rickenbacker in some ways.

Yeah, that's not gonna happen. Here's pics of it when I got it, and after I had Joe's Music re-top it:

And after Joe's Music was done with it, it was 1 of 1 with the Crushed Aluminum top.

That one's been around a bit. I saw it somewhere before, maybe Reverb. That is too high for a 5L even....although I would pay that much for a BH5 in one of the less-common finishes (if one turned-up).
