Hello fellow Rumblefish owners.

I'm looking for a wiring diagram for my XL bass. Haven't had any luck finding one online. Does anyone have a diagram they can copy for me or know where I can find one online?

Maybe someone can provide clear pictures of their JJ XL wiring or draw out the wiring for me?

Any help is appreciated.

I haven't diagrammed out my JJ XL yet, but I'm attaching a diagram for my old 5RL (which is now gone). The only difference between the two is that the leads for the two pickups are interchanged - in other words, the neck pickup on the JJXL is wired as the bridge pickup is shown in the diagram, and the bridge pickup on the JJXL is wired as the neck pickup in the diagram. This is of course due to the difference in behavior of the middle switch position between the two basses which solos the neck in the JJ and the bridge in the 5RL.

Thanks. The pdf is exactly what I needed. My fish has had some wiring changed out. Namely a push/pull switch volume pot installed. Not sure exactly why but I'm assuming it's the series/parallel mod for a jazz type bass. At least now I can check it against the diagram and see whats going on.

Just for clarity, and not trying to be too horribly nit-picky, I assume you mean R5L since there was no model designated 5XL. :)

Yep, you're correct. Dunno why I labeled it as such - maybe because I really wanted an XL. That's the reason I made the diagram. I rewired one of my original Rumblefish that way for a while, but have since rewired it back to its original configuration. The 5 RL is long gone...and I've since bought a real JJ XL.

BTW, I corrected my original posting so as not to create any future confusion.

Finally finished the Orca project. I think it turned out pretty well. New Rio Grande Vintage pickups, Elek-Trix Varitone wiring harness, Pickguardian pickguard, and a bada$$ racing strip. Of course a little rub down with a Magic Eraser on the frame, fretboard cleaning and treatment, and a re-setup. It sounds even better than before.

Does the VariTone work well with high impedance pickups?
I was under the impression you'd need a low impedance PU to work with a VariTone circuit?

I am on the verge of modding one of my two Rumblefish 5 strings. I am having Nordstrand build me an 18mm spacing Big Split PU. This will drop in fine into the middle position without any routing. I will be cutting a new PG and a Vol/Tone harness as well, so I'll have a "pseudo P" RL5 that can easily be reversed to original state if wanted so.

Cool :cool: I also have a fully loaded PG with the P/J setup and wiring. I can just drop it in and I'm ready to go. Right now though I run it J/J because I already own a couple P basses and the J/J setup in the fish gives me another option.

The PJ setup was my first incentive in doing this, but a P PU does not fit into the cavity without routing. So talking to Adrian @ Nordstrand an due to my own experience with both Nordstrand NP5 and BSplit PUs I opted for a single BSplit on this basses. I always have another R5L in the original JJ version to go to for a JJ sound. In fact it is my only JJ :)
