I have no decent photos of my Mercalli 5, but here's some videos I've made with it

this is the first one, with stock strings. There was no youtube demos of Mercalli at the time so I decided to make my own

After playing on roundwound strings for a while I've decided to try flats. And that's where the character of this bass really opened up!

Wow you are truly one BadAss Bass Player! I think you must've grown up in Detroit in your previous life because you definitely have got the Funkin Soul Groove in you ;-)

I kind of like the stock pickups. They give me a nice old school sound when paired with my TH500 amp. Did some some research and found they were Kent Armstrong pups. Checked out their pickups and decided to give the lipstick tubes a try. Pairing it with an Elek-Trix Vari-Tone jazz bass wiring harness. We'll see. I'll put up some pics once I get my new pg from Pickguardian.

FWIW, they are standard-jazz-sized pick-ups. Lots to choose from unless you just have to have OEM. I did not care for the OEM pups in the R5L.

As I own two R5L I am planning to have "bigger" sounding PUs in one of them. As the cavity is big enough I'd like to drop in some Nordstrand Big Singles and cut a different PG. The mod is going to be fully reversible.

Question: What is the string spacing on the R5L? My attempt at measuring this gave me 17 mm (core to core). But I am not sure I did this right...

Any help is appreciated :)

I know the Brad Houser 5 is 19mm. I used to have an R5L. Can't remember exactly but I know the spacing was considerably more narrow than the BH5. Does @Chef know?

I was reminded this weekend how amazing my Rumblefish 5 sounds with new Cobalt Strings. If you haven't found a set of strings that make you LOVE your 'Fish, give the Ernie Ball Cobalts a try. It's seriously irreplaceable tone.

(I'm not endorsed or anything. Just can't believe how much better the bass sounds with this setup)
Those are really great. I didn't try them on my R5L, but they do sound great on my Nordy VP5.
It's a shame they are offering only as single set for 5 string :(
