Yeah, that R5L has been on Reverb a longggggg time. I think it's just there for window dressing. Love your Lava Swirl PJ. I'm looking for a PJ and missed out on Chefs. Got plenty of other 'Fish in my rotation now so just keeping an eye out.

I will always keep my Lava Swirl PJ. It still gets occasional stage time and is my all-time favorite 'fish; it's one of my "all time Top 10 dream basses." I may have gone down from 5 Reverends to (soon to be) only one, but I will ALWAYS keep that Swirly PJ.

I still think I'll regret selling the R5L, but I really should try to thin the herd. If I end up keeping it, it's not a horrible thing. But I am making an effort at trimming down. I try to keep myself to under 10, but I'm having troubles with that.

Here's mine, bought this 5L two days ago, love the tones from the series(definitely massive sounding) and the single coil(modded to bridge pick up instead of neck)
Looking forward to try this fish soon with the band

my two R5Ls:
- the left one (ridged aluminium) is passive and has a bridge/parallel/neck switching, treble cut can be pulled for both PU in series, strung with Labella nylon wounds
- the right one (jet black) has the original serial/parallel/neck PU switching with an additional Aguilar OBP1 preamp running at 18volts, strung with d'Addario Steels

In the meantime I returned the black one to passive (bridge/parallel/neck) and fitted LowRider Nickels.......-> much better :)

Took this in on trade. Someone rewired it as a regular Jazz bass (V V T). The weird thing is that you can't blend the pickups at all. Say I have the volume on the neck up all the way, and the bridge up half way. It is exactly the same as if I just soloed the neck pickup. Doesn't really matter, I am planning to use this bass as a modding platform. The neck is incredible. I just need to find out if I can purchase a Split Brick. I put a call in yesterday, and am waiting to hear back. Pictures of the mod to follow if I can get the parts together.

Very nice! Worst case scenario you can't get a split brick, which they probably won't sell you. Get a push/pull and wire it up series/parallel, or get a 3 way switch and wire it up like their old XL wiring, which was a three way switch for Parallel/neck/Series. Great score! What is the weight on it?

Yeah I am hoping they will sell me one, but if not, I can go with another manufacturer... It wont be a split brick design, but likely a MM pickup of some sort. I am just really wanting this to be a modded Reverend with all Reverend parts if that makes any sense. The only non-Rev parts I am considering right now are Hipshot light tuners.

Cool thanks! Is it a Split Brick or standard P? I only ask because the routing is going to be done on the bridge pickup. I am wanting a clean route, and I don't really know how I can do that if I use a standard P reversed.

OK well I really do appreciate it, and I'll keep it in mind if I get a "no." I'm not sure what they'll say. I think they sell Railhammer pickups, and they seemed receptive to it on the phone. Either way, I understand where they're coming from if they do say no. The funny thing is that I took this bass in on trade with the attitude that I was going to sell it, but I like it too much. I've gone kind of exclusive with Reverend and Lakland/Hanson recently. They're just putting out better stuff than most of the other companies in their price range IMHO. To date I've had a Decision, Dub King, Fellowship, and now a Justice. All excellent,and I was either hard up or temporarily insane when I offloaded them. I also find that both companies have great communities of players surrounding them. Your offer is further evidence of that. Again, I really do appreciate it, and I will let you know what I hear.

Well the verdict is in... they cannot sell me one. Not really out of unwillingness. It was an issue of stock, which I totally understand. That said, do any of you guys know of a custom maker that makes a pickup similar to a Split Brick?

You could, but I find that a push/pull pot looks and works best. Everytime Inhave installed a 3 way switch, I either never use the parallel setting or the single coil (if its too noisy) setting. Something to consider. Right now I installed an SGD 4 conductor p pickup and wired series/single on a push pull volume pot. I had it previously on a 3 way toggle but spent most of my time switching instead of playing. Maybe that's just me.
