Well I'm going to have to bow out. After a month I've decided that while my Decision is a fantastic bass, it's just not for me, so it's up for sale.

While a lot of people enjoy the new basses, I myself have 2 of the old ones, I have not played the new ones, but the horn does not look right, plus it's just another solid body bass, there is no way this has any similarity to the old formaica top basses they used to make. For me I don't consider the new basses reverends, although they are made by the same company. I would like to graft one of the new necks onto an old body, that would be something special, like Brad Houser did, when he put the mercalli neck on one of his old reverend 5 string basses. Anybody else sort of think along the same lines?

The new basses look sweet, but the 5's are all 34" scale... IMO, a big misstep... Why not make one of the new 5's be 35" scale?

I'll stick with my BH5, killer bass!

Hey err'body,
I haven't played my Rumblefish V in a while and I've recently started using it again. I threw some D'Addario half-rounds on it and they sound great on this bass!

After taking the Rumblefish out of the case I've noticed some dirty, grimey build up on it. Have any of you noticed this as well? And what have you used to clean it that's safe for the body material?

I may be selling my BH5 in the classifieds this coming week. I just broke the bank on a nordy vp5 which shows up tomorrow and there's a good chance I'll be moving my beloved reverend to make up for it. So now that the new, off-shore Rev's have been around a while - I have to ask - how do they compare to the Rumblefish basses?

Also - how is the Dub King? Does it have a full sound? I've never really delved into the short scale world, but that bass makes me want to!

I tried the new Revs out on two occasions at two of the Dallas guitar shows. I wanted to like them very badly, but I just didn't. They didn't have the same quality of build, the tone wasn't as unique, and they weren't balanced very well, except for the Dub King. The Dub King was the only one I played that didn't have neck dive. I was very disappointed. I wanted to like them.

So the flats on my Mercalli have started boring me. The DR Black Beauties on my other Mercalli weren't doing it for me anymore, either. So I thought I'd try DRs Marcus Miller Fat Beams. Really, really like these.

I have two Reverends: The Moroccan Gold RPJ (mine was the review sample from Bass Player 2003) and an Orange Dub King. Both have Hipshot Ultralights, D'Addario Chromes, and the Dubber has Jim Naylor's weight block. They don't sound or feel the same, and I don't expect them to. However, with all the differences between them, these are 2 of my 3 go-to everyday basses. I never take them out without their getting compliments. I use the RPJ in my rock band and the DK in my more acoustic Americana band, and the other guys adore the bass I use (the guitarist in the rock band prefers the DK, but I think he's listening with his eyes, not his ears). These are amazing sounding basses. Just wanted to counter some of the negative posts I'm reading about new Reverends. They're still great players.

Are they as good as the American-made? I think it depends on what qualities you prize in a bass, and which of those qualities you found in the older basses. To me, the answer is yes, they're as good, just different.

So last Sunday, I saw Meshell Ndegeocello. And she was playing a Reverend Decision (a black one):

And even through the Fender Twin Reverb guitar amp she was using (don't know if it was modded or original) it sounded so amazing... I want one! How does a Decision or Fellowship compare to, say, a Fender P? Soundwise and feelwise?

Biggest problem is their availability here around Holland... Can barely find a shop that has them in stock or anyone that has one.
