So my Decision came in. I played it for about an hour or so and so far I love it. I've played nothing but P basses for the last few years and even so, I'm really finding the range of tones I can get out of it between the bridge pickup and the blend very useful. I didn't think I'd care to have a bridge pickup, but now I'm actually glad I do. Actually this is the first bass I've had in a long time where I feel like I want to play it. A new bass hasn't excited me in quite a while.
Construction is fantastic, as is the fretwork. I'm getting a little bit of first fret buzz on the E so I may have to have that looked at, but other than that, the playability is fantastic after giving it a slight tweak. I haven't played roundwounds, let alone medium gauge strings in a long time so that's a little strange, but I'm actually enjoying them. I may not go back to flats.
The ergonomics are a little different. If I'm not careful the bass can slip off my leg because of the shorter lower horn, but I don't think it will be an issue. It doesn't balance as well as other basses I have, as it dives a bit without a strap, but I don't think again that it will be an issue.
The only strange thing I noticed was that the D & G don't quite line up over the pole pieces. They come over the edge while the E & A are directly over the middle. I looked at a few other pictures of other Decisions and it seems to look like it's intentional. The first picture is my bass and the second is another I found a picture of. You can see what I'm talking about.
So I think I have a keeper. It will take me a bit to really get acquainted, but given that this is my first Reverend, I'm very impressed...I'm actually surprised to say that I'm more impressed with it than the G&L LB-100 I just bought. So that may be up on the block. The only thing the G&L has going for it is rolled fingerboard edges and better balance on the leg. That's it.
