XL170's have been my favorite for awhile now, until I got these Elixirs. The PJ really has a great tone with both pups full on, I pretty much leave it there.

I agree with both of you - my bugeye PJ has rounds (TI Powerbass) and I leave it with both pickups on full pretty much all the time. Hmmm, maybe I should take out the blend pot I put in and replace it with a pickup selector switch . . .

P/J setup:
As with any vol/vol/tone wired bass, I run both pups full on, and just crack one or the other volume pot shut just a tad to bias the output to one or the other pickup.

Three days without a post here. C'mon, people!
So, I realized the other night that my Reverends have rendered me "done" as far as buying more basses. Financial realities notwithstanding. Stick a fork in me, it's over. I was offered the only bass I really have G.A.S. for -- a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz -- mint condition with upgraded tuners, for a really nice price. And, I could get almost get away with it, because I'm selling my Stewart/Sansamp/Schroeder rig. But, after sleeping on it, I decided against it. I simply can't see ever bringing anything other than my Reverends to a gig. And, I'm past the point of having basses sitting around unplayed.
So, that's it. I'm a Reverend man for good! :bassist:

Actually, I've begun playing my last remaining Reverend a lot more lately! I play in 4 bands, and have a bass, or Basses, for each band. I always bring the Reverend as a backup. Hmmmm. I had BOTH my basses Fritz out on me 2 weeks ago (4 & 5 string), and finished the night with my Trusty R5L. (Still waiting for pics...) Since then I've started PLAYING the Reverend, and bringing the other basses as backups. Something tells me the Reverend will be getting a LOT of playing time this summer, cuz I can't imagine anything other than maybe a broken string knocking this baby outta commision! Plus it sounds Soooo Sweet. Even handles effects nicely. NIB setting on a Bass Pod Live! Wooo-Hooo!

If they fit me better ergonomically I'd have stopped the first time I got 2 PJs. Instead I keep searching for that ever-elusive combination of Rumblefish PJ tone and skinny-necked G&L ergonomics (latest attempt: Spectorcore 4).

I did some recording recently with a singer-songwriter and both he and the guy doing the recording really liked the tone of my Rumblefish PJ (over my G&L SB-2 that I had brought as well).

I guess I'm just too used to playing bigger neck, like 5 strings, big ole G&L and Fender 1 3/4 C necks, or DB...
My P/J felt like a skinny lil ole toothpick last night, and in fact "I fell off it" once or twice running from first or third position to twelve or higher...go to grab a high A and pull the string off the board, muscle memory expecting something much wider up there....

I just went the other way, replaced the selector I put in with a blend pot. I'm much happier with the blend.

I have considered myself done for awhile now, but I've been listening to some Jack Casady and now I have a bug to try a hollowbody, perhaps strung with flats to get an alternate tone to my dirty snarling Reverend tone. Now the trouble is what can I afford!

Last night at rehearsal my drummer stopped after a song, looked at me and said "Damn that bass sounds good!" I love my PJ!
