Hi, i just bought my first Rickenbacker bass! Thanks to the fellas here, u taught me everything I should know about the instrument. It’s a 4001 S, 1977. It was refinished by his previous owner and is in perfect conditions. The neck is a dream to play. Actually, I will revise the eletrics, cause the bridge pick up is with far more gain the neck one. I just arrived from a 700 km trip to catch this beauty, but am so excited I took these picks and soundclip for show my new baby.

I will wait until a chance to use the bass alive. The way it is the sounds stock reminds a jazz bass, with a distinct caracter. I prefer the sound with the pickups 50%x50%, i can get it lowering just a bit the bridge pickup volume, but im afraid that the overall volume of the bass with be lower too. Alone, it seems to happen. Gotta check in a real situation, with the band. And i suspect the bass will sound better in the mix with that more gain on the bridge pickup configuration. Can wait to play it alive!!! A dream come true....My Rick!!! a Metal Rickenbacker!!!! UUUUHHHHUUUU

I'm wondering....
For '08, is fireglo now amber fireglo? or are they offering both?

It seems some of the pics I see of brand new ones on ebay the color is much darker than before.

I can't believe how much I'm gassin for a Ric lately...especially a C64

I have a Ric 4003 which I will add pics of in a few days. It's a fallacy that Rics only sound bright and harsh. You turn the tone knob right down & the bass sounds beautifully warm and smooth.

My only criticism of Rickenbacker is that it takes forever to receive your instrument. I waited 11 months for mine. I had ordered a montezuma brown fretless and after waiting 2-1/2 years I cancelled the order. Ric needs to get their $hit together.

Since I'm ranting: I have a friend who didn't send in his warranty card and the neck did a pretzel act and needed repairs. Rickenbacker would not honour the warranty even though he bought it new from an authorized dealer and had the receipt and the dealers support. That's despicable. Ric gets away with this type of thing because of who they are and the demand for their product. If you or I tried this stuff we'd be out of business.

Some nations have laws which supersede manufacturers' warranty policy. Worth looking into....

Have to wait. I've got a 1980 4001 Fretless that I've had for 20+ years but I'm getting the fingerboard re-varnished and I don't have a good photo. I love that bass.

I haven't actually seen too many Rick fretless basses other than mine. I know they exist because Ric refers to them (and I have one) but they must be pretty rare.
