I don't think I'll EVER sell this bass... not just cause I love how it sounds, looks and plays, but it has alot of memories and stories attached to it, even though I've only had it since 2006.

First off, I was looking at different Ricks about the internet because it was my 18th birthday and I wanted to give myself an investment/indulgent gift (I had a savings account that I wasn't allowed to use until I turned 18 and my folks told me to get "something special" with the accumulated money). I found a specialist seller on eBay who dealt exclusively in Rickenbackers... I had my eyes on a Fireglo and a Midnight Blue 4003 when I decided to ask him if he had anything else that wasn't listed. Funnily enough, he had a Blueburst in his own guitar shop that he had decided to not place on eBay. Looking back on it, I feel this is a great stroke of luck as I haven't seen another new BB in the UK since.

I bought it and it arrived the day after all of my friends from school had one our last big get-togethers (massive party and gig) before we all went off to university/moved away. It's crazy to think about it, but even if I just look at my Ric, all of these great memories of school, my friends and all of the random, gigs and stupid crap I did fly back into my mind :) The way I figure it is if I can get so nostalgic and sentimental about this bass after 2 years, I wonder what I'll be thinking when I'm an old man and the Ric is sitting in the corner, covered in battle scars and even more memories :hyper:

Yup my first Rick. Absolutely love it.

Although this is a good place to ask this question, when I'm playing a song the ADG strings all sound fine but the E string is always lost in the mix. What would cause this? I don't have this problem on my Fender. It can't be a problem with strings as they're only a month old. I know higher notes are obviously going to cut through more then lower notes but the E string seriously disappears in the mix, the rest of my band have even noticed this!

That's interesting, never had that problem. Sometimes, one string in a set can be dead---it happens. It may need a pickup adjustment. I suggest joining the Rickenbacker Forum on the Rickenbacker site:

Post in the "Just Basses" section----there is the best source of information you can get. You can also google "Joey's Bass (or Rickenbacker) Page that discusses many issues with the basses---Joey is a member of the Ric forum. Also, the CEO of Rickenbacker frequently posts answers as well as Ric factory guitar techs. I think a new Ric owner, ought to join the official Ric forums. Go for it and good luck.

Sturmvogel - my E string was exactly the same - deathly quite, almost muted - why they let them out of the factory like this beats me. Just raise the poles under the E-string on BOTH pickups a tad with a small allen wrench and you will be fine. You have to take the bridge pickup cover off to get to the pole piece in there unless you can fabricate a special wrench. But even then, thats not hard.

Can you raise the pole pieces on the bridge pickups? It doesn't look like it. I have always adjusted the height of the pickup itself, and just did that to improve the brightness of the D and G strings.
