Thanks! It had a hard life before I got it. The previous owner had a Jaco wannabe moment and pulled out all the frets with something like a dull butter knife and then painted the pickguard, truss rod cover and tuner ferrules with a 3 layer wrinkle finish gold paint. The tailpiece was pretty much one piece of corrosion and the tone controls were ripped out. Finally, he removed the strap buttons and put in aftermarket buttons in different locations.

BUT - when I plugged her in, even in that sorry state, she had a great snarling tone and I was hooked. I've undone most of the damage and now have to decide what to do about the neck. The original truss rod cover and pickguard were white so I've already deviated a little bit by replacing them with black pieces. I'm leaning toward having the de-fretting damage cleaned up but leaving her fretless. I have D'Addario Chromes on now and really dig the sound.

If you would rather have mapleglo i know they would swap you one of those instead of waiting for your MID on backorder, if they dont then call a few days later. If they sell you a mapleglo on top of letting you keep your MID on backorder then you can probably call back a few days later and get more money off if you have a coupon. The lady i got mine from said it was 1270$ she wouldnt have let me use the coupon if i had it but since i called back and talked to someone else they let it go through. Either way I am sure you can get a maplglo.

It was built the 39th week of this year , so mid october.

Well I got part way there. They are shipping me a MapleGlo for $1200 but no to the discount.

Was the mapleglo an additional bass or was it sold to you as a substitute of the MID? basically are you still getting the MID?

Also you can get a discount applied if you have not used a coupon yet by calling back a few days later, the new rep may or may not give you a discount if you have a coupon thats how i got another 190$ off.

Cool either way. I know musicians friend will do 15% off a rick any time but thats still more then you can get them elsewhere.

The wings and the fretboard are just amazing on this bass , i stared at it for like 10 minutes when i first got it.The bass was really a keeper , there is alot of RIC bashing but when you get one like this you cant help but love it.

This is my 3rd 4003 and its by far my best one

I asked for it as a substitution. MID was not the color I really wanted but the price was too good to let it go. I just cancelled the MID. I know I could have kept it and flipped it for a bit of a profit but it's not that big a deal to me. MapleGlo I am totally in love with.

I was in the same boat but i got a MID, i sold it and after shipping i made 205$ profit , it wasnt really worth the hassle overall and i would have been just as happy getting a mapleglo one originally.


Glad you got it , it may end up being made right around the time mine was.

My MF MId ric showed up today. I just got home some too late to really try it out. But i did take it outr of thebox and check it out. first impression

1 I don't hate the blue. actually much nicer than i thought it would be. nice metallic blue that you would see on a muscle car. Iwould guess noy very close to the original shade of blue

2. looks like it is not a return. can't fine any evidence of prior fingers...

3. Ric did a half assed job of buffing it out... some polishing compound still on it.

4 - typical bridge not flush but very tiny.

5 Finish - can't find ant dripps etc but some orange peel on the side of the neck by the markers over the binding.

6 Vey nice fretboard. not as nice as the one above but much nicer than my burg glow

7. I couldn't compare it to my other rics right now but on the vintage setting this one IIRC is much thinner than the others bridge pup solo'd. Pushed in - nicest sounding ric i have owned. so far i really like the new pups and love the new sound. actually has a nice finger sound. I will have to do this on the burg

8 Setup was great. really low action and frets not sharp at all.

After reading about the great deals folks were getting from MF on the MID, I gave them a call just for the heck of it. They were very nice but since I hadn't gotten in on the original sale, the best they could do was around $1700. I guess I'm fixated by that 1K price so I'll just have to be patient and wait for the next super deal. Best of luck to all in your RIC search.
