Seconded on the recommendation, although in my instance, I've just got the standard 4001 model on my 4003 (it has the old bridge p'up mount!). It's a great little piece for covering the hole left by removing that impractical (IMHO) cover

I do need to get a new pick guard, the non(obviously) original mirrored version needs to go. The neck is joy to play and solid. Love it!!

That bass is a beauty,always liked that color as it goes really well with the fretboard color. I've seen them with black,white,and even gold pickguards,all look great.

I've a '93 Fireglo 4003s that I put a toaster in. I also moved the route up to the 1/2" position. Easy to do and I saw no apparent weakening of the neck joint either.

It does sound really good. The original pickup is 9.3 ohms. The Toaster is about 7.4. It's up a little higher because of the tall magnets, but the volumes are similar. Worked out perfect. I didn't add the cap for the bridge pickup. Everything else is stock. Very simple swap.

Cool, They sound great. I am using EB Flat's mostly due to fear of fret wear.
