Do post pics when you are finished, i'm really courious how that would look

The tough part will be the bridge and tuners.

Everything else will be cake compared to finding a bridge and tuners... even if I find old chrome ones and have them redone in black.

My only option may be to drill new holes in the headstock and put newer M4s on there. Drilling new holes into a clean Ric makes baby Jebsu cry.

Nice mapleglow 5-string. Is that an original (the headstock looks to be larger than a 4-string) or one you converted?

That's an (almost) factory 4003s5 MG with the black trim option (the vintage knobs have been added).

That's an (almost) factory 4003s5 MG with the black trim option (the vintage knobs have been added).

The two strings, especially the G-string, (ha-ha-ha) looks very close to the edge of the fingerboard. I wonder if the spacing was altered. Mine isn't as close to the edge (ref photo posted several clips back).

There's something about an "S" style mapleglow body that resonates that something special.

Also, for those of you that have any experience with it, what did ya think?
I got my first real good look at the full width inlays today
......boy, I don't know 'bout that one. Pretty intense, in-your-face look to it.

workin' end of a 4001 for 26 years!

It was introduced in early 2006 ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]). Mine is a 2006 model and personally, I don't care about the "vintage tone". I've never used it because to me, the tone becomes extremely weak (almost no bottom end).

It's a 1974 4001 and I have a bunch of jealous bass playing friends now . Getting a Rickenbacker in Quebec is complicated business; the only approved retailer has a 2 - 3 year for one and the online companies that deliver to Canada don't deliver to this province. So the only option is used and boy am I glad to have found this one.

So PLEASE, GOOD SIRS OF THIS CLUB, bestow upon me my number!

Your 4001 has a .0047uF capacitor in series with the bridge pickup. In the mid-80s RIC took that cap out and replaced it with a wire. Then in 2006 they put in a tone pot with a push/pull switch so you can put the cap in circuit or short it out. When you short the cap out, you get more low frequencies out of the bridge pickup. If you want to see what I mean, take a 1.5" bare wire and find the .0047uF tiny cap going from the bridge pup side of the pickup switch to the treble volume pot and wrap the wire on the leads at both ends of that .0047uF cap and you will be able to hear the difference. This is reversible, and if you like it you can get the 500k pot/switch from the RIC Boutique and mod your 4001. Here is a drawing:

Oh, and you have a very nice JG bass - I saw the pics a couple pages back. If you want to shine it up to almost like new get some Meguire's Scratch-X 1 (NOT the 2.0) and then use Zymol (the blue stuff) to give it a wet water finish. Use a soft cotton diaper.

I got my Scratch X and Zymol at Wal Mart.

That is the best one-two combo in polishing I have ever used.

Yeah, I was curious because I don't think Meguiar's still makes the Original formula just the 2.0. So is The Swirl-X stuff the same as the Meguiar's Original ScratchX? I've been looking for some killer end-all-be-all guitar polish/finish for some time now. What do you use for cloth? 2nd Wind says a cloth diaper. Sounds good. What does anyone else use?

Wow! Lots of valuable info there! I need to save that for future reference. Definitely. That's a "Must Read" for all of us Jetglo owners. Lot's of stuff I didn't know regarding the Jetglo finish. Thanks much! Glad I "unofficially" joined the Rickenbacker club. Still waiting on a number. Hmmmmmm...

With JetGlo, you can take a scratch that's right down to the wood and "erase" it as if it didn't exist if you know how to do it.

I've cleaned up quite a few of my scratches.

However, I'm thinking I'll just start leaving them alone for now. I'd rather play it than spend the time making it look mint again. If I ever wanted to hang it on the wall or sell it, I'd go through the process of cleaning it up.
