Not asking for it's full number, but would be currious if its in the, 300s, 400s, 500s, ect. And what year is it?

Also, have you had any issues with the paint flaking off or anything like that? Someone posted here that they have one (CS) that's flaking in spots. I don't know it that's common for an instrument this old or not. The only thing I've seen on some Rics is mild checking.

Maybe the issue the other person had with thier CS was it started to check and then it started to peel off or something.

I've read in other posts, in other forums, that folks sent thier CS back to the Rickenbacker factory to be repainted. I don't know how many, or if it was an isolated issue. Maybe for the first year's production or something.

I have one and the finish is fine. Love that color, Devon Clotted Cream White. I've been thinking of having my Gibson RD Artist sprayed that color.

Mine is pretty new. Built in 98. No finish problems, no checking or discoloration. However, the pickguard has a small crack at one of the screws which I see on so many CS models.

It actually is very comforatble. I was concerned with the edges being too sharp like on a 4001 I had, but no problem. I was worried about the neck feeling slow because of the finish. Also not a problem. I was worried about the pickup cover...but I'm getting used to having it there.

The tone is killer. Very powerful.

My first Rickenbacker has finally arrived :D

It's a 4003 made in Dec 1980.

Some previous owner painted some of the sides and the back of the body black and also exchanged the pickups with Seymour Duncans as you can see on the pics..
I got it, checked everything and it looks fine except for when i started to try and sand down the black paint to restore it..

Long story short: The neck has been repaired at som point and tried to cover it with black paint..

I have a question for you knowledgeable Ric folks. I suspect I'm going to indulge my GAS for a 4003 sometime this year, and I really like the Mid Blue finish more than the other three current colors. I understand there was a color-bleed issue with that finish (I think I'm stating that correctly, though I could be wrong) at some point during the past decade, so naturally I'd like to avoid that if I end up buying used. Could someone kindly tell me what year(s) that occurred? Thanks in advance.:)

Unfortunately, it's a very relative question. I'd say it's worth at least $700-800 but then you have to look at some of the deals you can get for that price. Even my number is relative.

I paid $900 for a mint 1986 4003S/5 less than a year ago.

That's what I mean by relative.

It very well could be worth $900-1100 or so depending on who you talk to.

I just picked up this 1977 Ric. It's a player for sure. Somewhat worn, but super low action and no buzzing.
Plays so much easier than any of my previous Rics.
Can any of the "experts" here tell me for sure which color it is? AutumnGlo or Walnut? Plenty of web searching and I still have no answer.
It does have a shiny finish, as opposed to satin, which Walnut is said to have, but then again, AutumnGlo wasn't officially offered in 1977.

two types of walnut were offered,satin and gloss. You sir,have the gloss variety..I have an '81 4001 in that very same color and owned a 4008 in that color also many moon ago..

Thank you very much. Now I just need to decide if I want to keep it or not. I'm so used to playing Jazz basses. I think I'll spend some quality time with it right now. :)

I got some money back from the seller so it's solved now!
I have sanded down most of the paint now of the back and wow.. What a beauty it is underneath!

Will get som pics later on! :)
