SCORE!!

Funny UPS guys called me this afternoon to tell me they were running late. That was about a half hour after the driver was here, lol.

After Seeing Mr Turners' doubleneck, I'm thinking I need to round up a black pickguard for this baby. Ooh la la!

Wademiester63, that is a real beauty, congrats. And you're in Denton? We're almost neighbors. And to answer the preferred tone setting question, it's wide open, both pups, and all tone shaping by pedals and amp. On the old 4001, I have a Toaster in the neck, and only use that pup, combined with a set of Roto Jazz flats which creates the warmest, deepest, smoothest bass tone ever.

Hey Chronicle, This one has a lot of amber in the clearcoat which really does bring out the vintage look. Even on the fretboard and inlays. In the spot where the finish is chipped off I can see that the binding is really white . Yours doesn't seem to have much amber if any at all from your pics. Is it supposed to be AFG or is it regular FG and you're goofing with me? Is it a little more yellow in person than it looks in the pics?

man, rics are beautiful. love that ambered fireglow. i need to take some more pics of my doubleneck, it's got one of the nicest fireglows i've ever seen.

are the white/black basses considered tuxedo basses? i did not know that. i made more money with my white ric than i have with any other bass i own (gigged nonstop through college with it in the 80s.)

my 4080 isn't too heavy, considering my main 7 is about 15 pounds. it's about the same, i think. wish it had at least a low b, i'd play it more.

I'm no Ric expert by any means but I'm sure learning a lot just by being interested =) I think only the white ones with white fretboards are "tux" basses. Like this one on Ebay.

All white Rics are serious GAS generators for me though and yours is especially fine! Did I mention before that I'm crazy about Rics with black binding?? The Fireglo finish on that doubleneck is awesome too. I love that so much that I ordered a black pickguard and mirrored bridge pickup mounting plate from PickGuardian tonight!

I couldn't find a black trussrod cover (called a TRC on the Ric forum!) so I'm going to make my own this weekend. Might name this bass Johnny Jr, hahah!

yeah, the 4080 fg is absolutely fantastic, as fg's go. that bass has a real interesting story behind it - some guy who participates here at tb used to own it in the 80's, then he sold it i guess to a music store, and then i bought it about 7 years later from the same store.

Just starting to get aquainted to my 2005 4003:

Always played Fenders, this bass is very different in many ways! Like it so far.

I've noticed the tailpiece lift problem:

Hardly visible, but it's there. Anyone else have the same thing?

I can live with a minor tail lift, don't wanna do any non-reversable mods.

This bridge is..wierd :eek: . No way to intonate without taking strings off (!), no way to raise/lower strings individually (!). And that mute pad is a joke, unless I missed something. I can only mute one or two strings at the time..
And the tail lift thing.
I like this bass, but those bridge issues are MAJOR, IMO.

I can see why some of you guys go Hipshot.

Strange RIC didn't redesigned this thing way back, when they altered the pups and truss rod system introducing the 4003.
