You have to lift the whole surround from off of the body by removing the four little screws (two front side, two back side). Obviously the strings should be out of the way for this "operation".

Once you do that, it'll be much easier to accomplish the removal of the "cover".

Remember to keep track of the order that the springs, spacers and ground wire go onto the "big" screws. That'll make things easier when you re-assemble everything without the "cover".

the 4003 - for me - is much easier to play without the chrome cover!!!

I think for me im gonna leave it this way for now anyway.

Im even more in love with her now ive got that sorted - i reckon one of us on here has got to get a Rickenbacker Tatoo - i think its time for a competition and we should include our club number on it!

Has anyone got the ricko sound add on for there bass?

any positives or negatives on the ric o sound?

I've got a potentially dumb question. I've got an SVT-VR. I don't have the Ric-O-Sound kit but I'm thinking of getting the Y-cable mentioned earlier. Now, my SVT-VR isn't a stereo amp, but I do have two channels. Could anything calamitous happen if I plug each of the mono ends into the two channels simultaneously? I obviously won't be getting any stereo separation, but could I use this to add f/x to the bridge pickup while keeping the neck pickup clean?

From Ric's owner manual:

Many Rickenbacker instruments come equipped with two output jacks. One jack uses a standard cord for normal mono use. The other jack is a Rick-O-Sound effects output, designed for use with a stereo equipped amplifier, or with a specially designed Rick-OSound kit. These two output jacks should never be used at the same time.

Note that a mono cable will not work in the ROS jack. If you wish to use a mono or standard cable, plug it into the standard jack only.

I think you misunderstood him, AMG... he was talking about a Y-cable from the ROS jack, into 2 channels on the same amp.

Zip... I've tried it both ways. With 2 amps, you get real stereo... but who needs it (unless you're playing leads, like Squire). The way you're suggesting should get you most of the advantages, without having to haul 2 amps around. You can run one through effects without the other and you can EQ each pup seperately, to still get the 2-basses-effect.

I haven't used my Y-cable for years... but if I had a true 2-channel amp, like yours, I probably would. :hmm:

Dammit... now I gotta go amp shopping again. :crying:

Thanks J.T. That's the answer I was hoping for! Thanks Alvaro too, that's still good info that I had forgotten. I was wondering if I worded that question well; I'm running on about 3 hours of sleep.

I'll still eventually get another amp/cab (I play keys too and have been using my SVT-VR+ampeg 810 ) but that's a ways off. Great to know I can get the stereo-to-dual-mono cable and get some great sounds!

you can use simple Y stereo cable instead.

Yeah, I had Bayou cables make me a Y adapter: 2 male TS plugs to a locking female TRS jack. Then I can just run a TRS cable from the stereo jack to the Y adapter.
