How'd you go about making that thumbrest? Interesting idea...any instructions for those of us who might consider making our own?

All it is is the end of the pick up cover. I cut off most of it where it curves and screwed it back in.
Played my first Rick today. A 1980s 4003 in mapleglo.
Most amazing thing ive ever touched. The punch was amazing and the neck perfect. Also i got to play it through a 1960s Vox and and cab and nice GK (Split). I have enough cash to get one, now just need to scout the market. Where do you guys recommend me to look besides Ebay of corse. I'm not situated in Europe (Malta) so worldwide shipping is a must. Also what are the key differences between a 4001 and a 4003?

Don't forget there are some modern rick's out there that kick a$$ too, this is my 4004 jetglo Laredo five string with 15k ohm humbuckers, I just rewired it vol-vol-tone with 500k vol/1000k tone pots. Don't try to get one of these from RIC, they don't make them like this. It's not too hard to find a used one and massage it a little.

I used to have a 1973 Jetglo once too, but mine had checkered binding - didn't Rickenbacker stop making those in '73?
By the way, I'm gonna get a Jetglo again somday - don't think I'll be able to get a '73 like the one I had again though
