Speaking of ones that got away, here's a 1997 white 4003 with black trim that I sold last year. It was a very bright white and showed no signs of yellowing. This bass is being replaced with a 1973 4001 project bass that is being refinished in bright white and will have checkered binding and white plastic trim, there will be pics to come.

Those are sweet. The black ones do look great! Will you be my dad? :D

Are my eyes deceiving me or is the head stock reversed in the top one? Did you special order that?

It’s not your eyes … when McCartney was given his left handed model in 64 (it was number 1 or 2 I think) and the story I heard was that RIC didn’t actually have a left handed neck ready, so they just put a standard right-handed neck style cut on his lefty body. Flash forward to the reissue … they added the flipped head to the right handed models too (Jimi style). You usually don’t see them in black though mostly the original Fireglo and the “stripped” natural.

I like them both but they are very different instruments … the 4001 with the old style pickups has a very detailed but lower-gain output, I think it’s gonna record great!

The new 2007 has the Hi-gain system and the new vintage switch and I like it live. The vintage setting won’t quite get the vibe of the 4001 but having the Hi-gain bridge makes up for it live. It reminds me of a hot wound 51 P-bass. Both have D’addario XL Chromes flatwound strings.

As for the whole adoption thing sorry man my pater familias status is taken up with two live in teenage daughters and a GF that is a professional belly dancer and she requires a large portion of my attention …

The Memphis summers melt Canadians with alarming regularity, and it’s to cold for me up there … besides I would miss the BBQ and Blues music and this …

 ... I know I know It's a tough job but somebody's gotta do it!... I hear it all the time.

I'm still not sure if it's the lighting but it's a very very deep looking red. It's a 4001 right? Cause i see the stripe in the middle.

See in this picture, the glo is obvious in the middle.
