I took the bridge pup guard off exactly because of that. I've started playing more towards the bridge as well, the snarl is something that I've yet to hear another bass do.
Same color as the one I bought back in June. Can't say enough about the bass. Always loved Rics and the more I play mine the more I want another!

But it's got to be special! Blueburst, Limited edition color, 08's color of the year.
Ohh that will be nice. I wouldn't mind owning another one.

I currently own 4 Rics, have owned 9 (I think) and have played dozens and dozens, and I've never once played a Ric with a quiet G. In fact one of the things I love about Rics is that the D&G strings tend to be so much more loud and full on them. I've owned loads of other basses, many high end, but nothing else has come close in that respect.
I have a sad story...
I know I never posted pics of my bass so I never got a number but...I no longer have my Ric. :scowl:
My friend originally gave it to me because he didn't have the money to fix it and he doesn't like Fretlesses...plus he's a guitard. So I got it fixed and have happily played it for the past 7 months. Turns out he got an apprenticeship with a Luthier in Las Vegas and needs the bass so he can live for his first couple months there. Sucks.
Then I got happy for a few minutes when I saw a green Ric for sale here on TB...but I'm saving up to move so I can't swing it...sucks.
I will be unsubscribing to this thread because I don't want to look at your Rics.

I saw Bob Weir last night
And there was a quartet playing outfront
Mandolin, guitar, drums, and a bass
I watched them set up
and the bassist pulls out a BEAUTIFUL maroon rickenbacker. If there wasnt such a crowd I was gonna walk up and try to talk to him about it, but it just didnt work out
so I gave them the change in my pocket and went to see the show instead.

I was thinking of doing that yesterday. Maybe I will do it before Friday night practice

I am not big on the G string anyway so it may be my tecnique. I could probably get away with a two or three string bass when I am playing with the band. It's when I'm just noodling around or making up my own stuff that I play on the G alot. And then the volume isn't that bad because I am working down instead of up usualy...Hard to explain not knowing any theory or technical stuff.

Thanks, I kinda figured. I had a fireglo 4003 awhile back but sold it to buy a vintage piece. I can pick this one up for a grand and think I'll go ahead and jump on it.
I haven't been watching closely, but what the heck is happening with Ric prices? Some of the opening bids on eBay are just out of sight IMHO. I was talking to my dealer and he was telling me he's only been getting jet glos in and can't get anything else. Looks like Ric is way behind their orders, yes?
Thanks for the offer Professor, but my dealer had 2 jet glos as of Friday, but I really liked the midnight blue one. So, I'll stick with that one.
Interesting, never would have predicted that. I liked my 2003 FG except for the neck profile. The new one seems to have a more comfortable feel to me, so we'll see.
I thought it would be impossible to get but one I just kept wandering to Sam Ash till the mgr said he had one in the back. Said If i didnt buy it, it would be gone by the weekend.... so I am now in the club.
My feeble attempt at pics is on page 38 or 39... I was just commenting on how hard they are to find...sorry for the cornfusion
