To straighten out the locks deal.

Strap Buttons on 4003 and 4004 series are Shaller ready. Get the strap locks themselves and they shoud pop right in.

4001 and RI's do not come with strap lock friendly buttons, need to change buttons in order to get them locked.

#39...?

An '03 4003 and an '05 360... Sorry the second is not a bass but it's the closest I could afford to a 4005... :crying:

And as for the Marlin in the background... Just ignore it... :hmm:

And how long will it be before someone mentions the Fender straps on the floor....

As shallow as it may sound, the first thing that attracted me to Rics was the look. I remember seeing Weller and Foxton of The Jam with their 330 and 4001 respectively and thinking they looked absolutely mint. Back then I never really had much tonal awareness and though I loved The Jam, I didn't really analyse the sound. To my young ears, it was just brilliant music. It was only later when I started to play guitar and bass that I started to listen to the guitar sound in any constructive way. I love the sound of both my 360 (a clean rich tone to match its looks) and my 4003 (like a whiskey drinkin', Marlboro smokin' opera singer) and it's always a pleasure to pick them up and plug them in.

Now if only someone will kindly donate a 4005 to the cause I'll die a happy man...

Can't have been many of those made. God, they're beautiful . . .

Aren't they just...

They stopped making them around '84 or '85 and now they are very hard to come by... eBay has it's share now and again but a good one will cost in the region of £5000 ($10000) although here's a beauty I was watching last week that went for much less...

No international shipping unfortunately (as is normally the case).

Time for a reissue...? One of the big problem is that collectors have snapped them up. I've seen a single collection of between 10 or 12 Ric 4005s just sat there gathering dust. It's just not right...!!!

I'm anxiously awaiting the for July to get my new 4003 Midnight Blue and have been looking for pictures to get a good idea of what the color looks like and the color seems to be all over the place.

I saw wademeisters pics of midnight blue and they do look darker (certainly more midnight than any of the others posted here) and just assumed it was one of those colors that was hard to photo but looked really bright under a flash (which I like). But this ebay ad has photos of an '07 4003 with flash and it is really dark.

Can you midnight blue owners tell me which picture best represents the blue? Thanks

The one in your link looks pretty much exactly like mine.
The few that I've seen in person (including one at a Mogwai show last winter) have had a fairly uniform shade of blue. I'm sure there are some natural variations out there, but the blue is definitely a DARK blue. Not so dark that it looks black (altho that could happen in very low light) but nice and inky.

Those are some good pix. I'd say they all look right on the money. The brightness of the blue all depends on the light it's in.

Here's a link for probably the most accurate pic I could find while waiting for mine to arrive. I really hoped it was just this color too =)

Thanks wade and zip,

Two out of two agree that the color is dark. That confirms it for me...well, i did just notice that you both of you have darker pics of your Rics. A couple on here almost look like bright metalic flake. In the right lighting do your Rics look like that?

Yeah, it's the metallic that reflects the light I guess. The brighter and more direct the light is, the lighter the blue appears.
