Go for an "S" model or a Laredo. No binding, no square top edges, nice & comfy. My Tuxedo is an "S", and it's way nicer to play than standard 4001/4003's.

I know, that's why I still own the 4001CS and the 4004 Laredo!

I have a 2006 4003MG that I love Sorrfy I don't ahve any pics of it right now.

I used to have a '79 4001MG, but I stupidly sold it Actually I did worse thatn sell it. I put it on consignment at the local shop where it sat for a few months. Durring that time I played around with it when ever I went into the store and started to fall for it all over again. the day I went in to take it back, it was gone. Sold the day before....

Just a question:

Does this look odd to any one else???

Shouldn't there be routing for the mute and bridge visible??? Matt, did that bass come with that bridge on it?

Wow this thread has grown since I took that walk...
To answer all questions not in order:
It's a 1972 4001 with checkerboard binding.
The pickups are Seymour Duncans & I kept the originals of course.
I have the original tail piece, but had it replaced in '78 with an original Bad Ass (II's weren't around) & the lutheir (lol, aka butcher) routed out a setting for the bridge.
Later in the mid 80's I found a gifted luthier who ironically worked at Rickenbacker in the early '70's and repaired the damage by replacing the section from the bridge pickup back to the butt (good eye INCUBUS2432!). He repainted (his job at Rickenbacker) the face of the body to the original color & it matches perfectly, an absolute beautiful job!
He also pulled the 2 truss rods, replaced them with graphite bars (for support) and installed a single working truss rod. Oh, and the tuners are newer Grovers replaced when the old box Grovers began to fail.
The inlays are the original crystal (later replace by the simulated plastic) and the lacquer was taken off the fretboard at my request.
It' cost me a mint, but it's my first bass ever & who wouldn't have surgery on their first born to it?

I know this question has probably come up before, but I'd like to put Dunlop locks on my Ric since my other basses have them. I'll have to buy new screws - does anyone know the screw thread and pitch info? Thanks.

Yeah, but not to fit Dunlop strap buttons.

You don't need to worry about size & pitch; just remove the existing ones and slowly torque the Dunlop receptacles (with the included screws) in; they're a little larger.

But fer shure, don't use a powered screwdriver....

EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, maybe the Dunlop screws weren't bigger. But you do know about the toothpick-and-wood-glue trick, right? Just do that, let it set up overnight, then screw in the Dunlop screws....

Unfortunately, RIC's do not come with strap locks. You can buy a Schaller strap lock post that will thread into the existing post hole on any RIC.

Simply unscrew the existing post and screw in the Schaller post. The threads match perfectly.

You have to buy them through a RIC dealer and I believe they charge approx $12.00 per post and they're available in chrome or black.

As long as i'm posting, this is my July 1993 4001v63.

Not the actual locks, but it comes with the poles on the rick. I poped some Schallers on and they fit.
