Does this one qualify for modded? It was a '91 MGBT but I changed the neck higain for a '73 higain and the bridge for a magnetic shoe horsey.

It counts if you want it to!

For a white on black TRC spray the white one black, then very lightly sand the lettering and the plastic is white. Use a high number grit sandpaper and then polish the revealed white. Viola, a black TRC with white lettering.

HEY! How do you get more than 2 lines in your sig?

Nice horseshoe. What year is the horseshoe from?
The shoes are from a 1962 model 100 Electro Student lap steel I have. The coil was a 2004 higain but I had it rewound and it has 5/16" steel pins for poles. The coil is wound to 8k ohms.

Oh, it sounds sweetly "round". For lack of a better term, the notes sound 3D. A fullness to the note not present with the regular bar magnet under coil or even the RIHS.

Careful, on a Ricky if you rout out too much wood in the neck position, you run the risk of the neck shifting on you (and you can't shim a Rick). That's what happened to Cliff Burton's bass after a few heavy mods.
I dont know where that rumour came from, but i dont think its true, as his friend Dave Donato said he was using the rick at maxwell untill he died....
that wasnt an attack btw, just seeing if im wrong.
Also, the basses on this thread are great.

Depends. On older models, it's usually okay as the body horns lie higher up on the fretboard making for more stability. On the newest models; '10, '09, '08, maybe more; both horns have been cut back, the lower horn cut all the way even with the bottom of the fretboard. These are the one's that I would hesitate to mess with.

Very tasteful! Me like. Do the Hofner pickups mount with machine screws? Do they fit the string spacing well? (It looks like they do.) I am always toying with reversible-mod pickups and it's cool to see someone else doing the same.

Yes the pickups mounted with machine screws although I had to cut them down a bit. Too long.
The spacing is pretty close for the neck but a bit narrow for the bridge.
Funny thing is you can't notice. Even seasoned front of house PA operators all comment on how great she sounds. No eq-ing needed. (might also be the TCE DI)
The pups are physically a little larger than stock Ric single coils. You could file a std pickguard to fit, but I opted to get a signwriter to cnc a piece of acrylic for a custom guard. Cheap and reversable. Pickups cost me $16 each shipped - cheap!

How about this one? I call it a 4004/2 v57. Started out with a 4004L, pups moved to the 4002 position, and pickguard is based on the 1957 4000. This was a collaborative effort with Dane Wilder, and he did the actual mod.

Love it! This one gets my vote for # 1 best looking Ricken-Modded bass on the TB forums. You took a fairly plane-jane Laredo, & turned it into something really special - Congrats!
