The Rickenmodder Club

How about this one? I call it a 4004/2 v57. Started out with a 4004L, pups moved to the 4002 position, and pickguard is based on the 1957 4000. This was a collaborative effort with Dane Wilder, and he did the actual mod.

Welcome aboard!

Does a pickguardian bezel count?
I dunno................tough one.

How about we say it counts if you want it to :bassist:

Meet "Dirty Bastard!", my 1976 4001. Nothing too crazy, mod-wise: DiMarzio X2N-B bridge pickup, Seymour Duncan neck pickup, chrome pickup ring replaced with black plastic one, Schaller tuners (they were on the bass when I got it, though). Interesting little note about this bass. I like the neck so much, that I had the neck on my custom Moser Arachnid Ultra bass built to the same specs (except the Moser is 24 fret/34" scale). ;)

Cheers!

For those who have had their Hipshot bridges in place for some time - any tail lift as yet? Are you happy with your material of choice? Hipshot is one of my favorite hardware makers and I've been pondering putting one of their chrome aluminum versions on my 4003. If you have a chrome/aluminum bridge, has the plating endured well? Thanks for your input!

Can't speak to the plating on the aluminum version, but mine's brass/chrome, and I love it. No tail lift, no cosmetic issues, and adjustments are a breeze. I chose the brass (over aluminum) for increased sustain, but I dunno if that's even noticeable. Hipshot in general is The Goods. I have the lightweight tuners on my Lakland, and they're tight as can be.

Beautiful bass, BTW.
that is BADASS.

Thank you!

Could you explain the switches on that one please?
Honestly, on the switches, the only thing I can tell you for sure is that there is a phase switch and a pickup selector somewhere in there.

I had a Rickenmodder that I absolutely loved, did all the work on it myself. It had Schaller tuners, a Leo Quan Badass bridge, 22-pole Carvin humbuckers, and a textured blue acrylic pick-guard with no on-board controls -- totally clean face. I'm kind of a minimalist that way.

Of course it got stolen. :crying:

This bass is one I got from a friend in the early 80's to replace my stolen one. He did all the wiring. I believe the pickups are DiMarzios. I just found the sound I liked about 30 years ago, and then never touched the switches again.

In the not-too-distant future, I'm going to change this bass into something more suited to me. I have never much cared for Fender style pickups, so my plan is to put in a couple of humbuckers, style yet to be determined (probably Joe Bardens or Seymour Duncan MMs). Then I'm going to wire straight out (again) and replace the pick-guard with something a lot more eye-catching.

I have changed my mind. I'm going to keep the pickups that are there, but I am going to rewire and rearrange things quite a bit.

If the bass turns out as well as I hope, I'll post pictures.

Can I get a number?

I'm not usually a fan of Ric mods, but that is just absolutely stunning. No way I could ever afford a 4000, but this would come pretty close to satisfying the need.
