Speaking of Flats...try some TI flats sometime...they're pricey but they they're nickels and sooo worth it! Matter of fact I took them off my SR375F so I'll have them for my next fretless. And I've NEVER done that before selling any bass before. And it's not just because they're pricey but they're that great. :smug:

They were on my short list with Chromes and GHS Precisions, but from what I gathered Chromes had a more desirable tone for me. I wanted more thump, but still a little brightness. (But clearly not near rounds bright.) Chromes seemed to be exactly that. Does that sound like I made a good choice to you?

Anytime you choose something that works for you it's always the right choice. There's a lot of bass players that I know who use Chromes. :)

Just wanted to give a before and after for everyone. A while back I installed DiMarzio model J's in my SR500. They sound fantastic in this bass but obviously don't fill the soapbar cavity. So after reading a thread about a similar situation from someone with a BTB I bought some covers from MojoTone to go over top of the J's.

Well, obviously! I wasn't asking for approval or anything like that. Maybe my question should have been something like this: "TB brethren, who collectively have more string experience/knowledge than I will ever accumulate, do you, in your vast experience/s, believe that Chromes were a wise choice given my tone goals and concerns?" I think that may be a bit clearer, if MUCH longer. ;) So how about it?

Yes, to answer your question. I tried chromes on my 500 (when I had the stock pups) and I would describe it as thumpy and clear

They're on my 505, so I imagine they must sound pretty similar. It's never sounded better on its own or in the mix. So bassy, yet clear, and just the right amount of treble content. It really sounds just like the bass sounds I've been after on some recordings, and it wasn't found (for the most part, at least) in endlessly tweaking EQ. Never thought strings could have such a profound effect on my sounds.

And you're in my neck of the woods, so clearly your opinion carries some weight. ;)

I like these pups way more than the stock MK1's. I've been messing around with different arrangements. At first I installed them with the stock preamp, then with a Bart NTMB, both in series. Then I ran it with no preamp in parallel. Right now running it in series with no pre. All of these options are IMO better than the MK1's. just not a fan of them. I read a thread here yesterday about how the MK1's sound good but the MK1 pre is what kills them. I want to believe it since there was a noticeable difference in tone between the MK1 pre and the Bart. I gave one of the MK1 pups to my guitarist for his cheap bass. I could play around with that to see if it sounds any different there than it did in the 500 since his bass is a single pup run passive.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, to my ears the SRX is the most under-rated bass out there. These sit so beautifully in a mix. They got the unfortunately inaccurate label as a bass made for metal when in fact it is very versatile and is a workhorse for many different genres.

Congratulations on your purchase.
