K, works for me! The more I think about it, I'm in complete agreement. let's keep this as a blanket club, I'm not into excluding people.

OH, random note: A '94 SR1305 just sold on eBay today for $233.50. Lucky guy. (it wasn't me.)
also, there's a super rare SB1500 on there that's just over $200. (also not mine, but I wish.)

I just want a 5 string Soundgear with a 5-piece unfinished neck (jatoba/bubinga or wenge/bubinga) and a soapbar pickup around the precision position. Whether I get a 505, 705, 1305, 3005, whatever, that's what I want.

Wen you finally have some money, just set you're sights on a used 505, I've found quite a few for between $300-350. Really, the 505s with the Wenge/Bubinga necks are like baby 3005s. You could probably get one and swap the electronics to match the 4005 and spend a lot less money for essentially the same thing.

[del]Hey guys, I need input from everybody. I found out that there is an SRX specific club on here. So, in light of that I'm torn with a decision. Do we continue to allow SRX players to join or do we refer them to the SRX club? I can go either way on this, Yes the SRXs are Soundgears, but if you're a purist, they're not and neither are the SRAs and GIOs. IF we were to start referring them to the SRX club and not giving them numbers here, we would obviously grandfather in everyone that already has a number with an SRX.
So like I said, honest feedback, keep it friendly and keep in mind, when I started this club I never specified what kind of SRs were acceptable, so we can have this as a blanket club to all SRs or start to turn it into a club for the original SRs.[/del]

Actually, it is cherry sunburst...but I like orange too.
Unfortunately shes a little dirty in these pics and you can't see that quilted maple finish is really DEEP and lights up when in a spotlight. Been playing, not polishing...that'll change before the Holidays.
Will be looking for an upper end SR for lighter tone and possibly a 5er next year.
The SRX will probably still be my show stopper, cause it screams LET'S PARTY.

I have ton of pics in this thread from when I first got it, tore it apart and cleaned it up. I still need the truss rod cover and I'm gonna replace the stacked pots, but it's playable finally. I'll take some more pics. I spent a lot of time cleaning the body up since I haven't been able to play it until now. it's looking great now.

I was wondering when they stopped using wenge. I was going to post, even post pics of my bass (wenge) and a more recent one. Then I thought, I'd better read through the thread again. And I found this:

I always wondered if those lighter-colored streaks are damage (I did buy it at Guitar Center) or just variations in the wood (I think I bought it pretty soon after it came in so it hopefully didn't see much abuse on the showroom floor)? I thought the neck was pretty striking - are the new non-wenge ones different other than in looks?

Just tweaking the string height, but it already plays beautifully.

As to your question about the streaks. that's actually the wood grain. The better pieces of Wenge are going to have a more defined grain, where the wood is that very dark brown and the grain is a lighter "chocolate" color. My old 505's neck looked just like your neck does. So nothing wrong with it at all!
